Ward 4 fast losing its once posh status

Panchkula, February 21

Residents of this posh and VIP sector of the city claim they are paying hefty taxes to the very authority of the Municipal Council that has failed to make its presence felt in the ward.

With the sector plunging into complete darkness immediately after the sunset, ill-maintained roads with potholes, overflowing dustbins, the ward is a fine picture of neglect.

While the residents rue that the ward councilor did not even once visit the area after the elections five years back, councillor VK Sood says that it is the politics at the MC office that led to the present situation of the ward.

Sood, being from the BJP, alleged it was the Congress and the then INLD president of the MC that did not allow him to undertake any developmental work in his ward done despite several written and personal requests.

Complaints and expectations of the residents of the ward
Speaking to Newsline, Santosh Duggal said, “There is hardly any development that we have noticed in the last five years in the ward. The roads are so bad that one cannot dare drive at night. What further adds to the agony is the fact that due to non-functional streetlights, accidents have become a regular feature in the ward.”
Vijay Mahajan, another resident of the ward, echoed similar sentiments. “Forget development. We have not even seen the councillor visit ever once since the elections five years back. Also, one look at the condition of road just outside the councillor’s house is an evidence of the kind of work he might have done in the ward,” Mahajan said.
She claimed the condition of the ward, which houses several VVIPs of the city, is worst in comparison to other wards of the city.
Bila Gaind, a 70-year-old resident of the ward says it is high time that a new councillor takes over and handles the situation so that the ward could maintain its VIP status.

“I do understand that there is hardly any developmental work that has been done in my ward in the last five years. It is all because of the presidents of the MC who have been from the different parties and not the BJP. They didn’t allow us to carry out any developmental work in the ward. Be it the non-functional streetlights or the horrible condition of roads, it is the MC president and her lobby that is responsible for it,” Councillor V K Sood says.
Sood added all his efforts to initiate development were futile. “We not only wrote written letters but also made personal requests for developmental work in the ward. But all these fell on deaf ears,” Sood said, adding “if brought to power this time again, I would insure that the status of one of the most posh and VIP sector of he ward is maintained”.
