Panchkula, February 26 While the residents of the ward (Sector 16) claim to be suffering with the failed regime of Municipal Councillor SS Goyal, the councillor in turn claims to have initiated major developmental works in his ward. From the poor condition of roads to facing the brunt of being next to Rajiv Colony, the residents of the ward are at the receiving end.

The ward is literally looking forward to a new councillor this time with the seat being reserved for a woman candidate.

Complaints & expectations

Claims, that maximum has been done for the development of the ward, go down the drain as the residents are forthcoming with the problems that have only been neglected over a large period of time.

“Rajiv Colony and Bhudunpur Village pose serious security threats to the ward. The area stinks round the year making it difficult for residents to even cross the area. Besides, the road in front of the area has been encroached to a large extent. Adding to that is the problem of stray animals which is a big nuisance,” Suresh Yadav, a resident of the sector, said. The councillor has also failed to live up to his promise of a community center, Yadav added.

Echoing similar sentiments, another resident of the ward Rekha Verma said, “The sector market, which supposed to be a district centre, is completely neglected. The sector market has not even been developed according to the standards of an internal market. Sanitation is also a cause of concern.”

Raman Kapoor, another resident of the sector, pointed attention towards a kerosene pump that had been planned for the sector. A site had also been allotted for the pump which is now lying vacant and is home to stray animals, reptiles and congress grass. “Not only this, just a look at the poor condition of the roads is an indication of the kind of work done by the councillor. It’s dangerous to drive here at night on such roads and under the non-functional streetlights,” Kapoor said.

Councillorspeak

Talking to Newsline, SS Goyal said, “Rs 99 lakh was spent for the ward, more than any other ward. Roads were repaired three years back and streetlights replaced. Railings were also fixed around the sector opposite Rajiv Colony and Bhudhanpur Village. He further added that it was during his tenure that the work for a dispensary yet to be constructed was finalised for which tenders would be allotted soon.

To do away with the problem of water pressure in the ward, a boosting station was also constructed. “Though we tried our best, the problem of stray cattle could not be tackled due to the proximity of the sector to Bhudhanpur Village and Rajiv Colony.
