Delhi has a current potable water requirement of approximately 900 million gallons per day (MGD), whereas the Delhi Jal Board has a capacity to supply only about 755 MGD of potable water from its existing installations (including 100 MG ground water). Per capita water requirement varies between 170 and 220 litres. The average increase in demand during peak summer months (May-July) is 10-15%. By 2011, the demand for water in Delhi is expected to be 1,600 MGD, whereas the proposed water treatment capacity is 990 MGD.
