Panchkula, March 16 * Ward number 28
* Area — Village Kharak Mangoli
* Category — Women SC
* Overall rating — 4/10

With the residents of village Kharak Mangoli in Old Panchkula fighting over every single drop of water and suffering due to non-availability of basic civic facilities like electricity supply and sanitary conditions, they hope for better options in the coming Municipal Council elections.

Sitting councillor, Kasturi Devi however, claims that most of the developmental works have been completed and only a small percentage left to be done.

Residentspeak
Asha Rani, a resident of the village said, “It has been long since the water supply has been a major issue of contention in the village.
There are hardly two fresh water taps for around 30 houses in a galli, leading to daily fights and conflicts. There has been hardly been a day when there has been no fight in the village over the issue of water.
Also, though there are several streetlights that have been put up in the village, only two of them are functional”.
She further added that another problem in the village was that of sanitation. A large number of stray pigs with their litter create havoc in the area and spread a large number of diseases.
A resident of the village, Getori Kumar, said, “There is not one thing that can be said to have been done in the last five years in the village.
The uncovered drains have to dirty and stinking water flowing openly, stray animals roam all around leading to several kinds of diseases and the internal gallis are in bad shape.”
He further added that despite several complaints that were made to the sitting councillor, Kasturi Devi, nothing has happened.
Krishan Pal, who has been staying in the village for the past 15 years, said, “We are not in the least satisfied with the kind of developmental works that have been done in the village in the last five years.”
“A large number of small children of the village have fallen ill in the past couple of years due to the dirty and stinking stagnant water in the village”.
Similar sentiments were echoed by another resident Mahender Singh who said, “We are in a real bad shape, as we neither get kerosene oil nor have the basic civic amenities in the village.”
“Although some developmental works have been done by the sitting councillor, like the number of rooms in the primary school of the village have been increased with new rooms being constructed, and some of the gallis have been concretised, a lot still needs to be done so that the village can lead a respectable living”.

Councillorspeak
Talking to Newsline, Kasturi Devi, the councillor from the ward said, “Though there are several things that are still to be done in the village, during my tenure I have tried to get a lot of development works done. First and foremost was the construction of three more rooms in the Government Primary School of the village, which previously had only two rooms. Also, the four-sided boundary wall of the school was constructed during my tenure.”
“As far as the water supply is concerned, two fresh water taps were installed in the village.”
She further added that as the problem of the water supply still continued, the DC of Panchkula was approached several times to get a water tube well installed in the area, but nothing has come of it.
Devi also said that the HUDA officials were also approached several times regarding the same, but the work is still pending.
“Another developmental work done in my tenure is the installation of street lights in the village. The administration is also planning to open a liquor vend near the village, which most of the villagers are opposed to. We would not let the liquor vend open in or near the village”, added Kasturi Devi.
