“Conjunctivitis is a characteristic summer infection and is likely to catch up in the coming weeks. Fortunately, here, the intensity of the infection is not that high as is seen in some areas of western UP but people need to be careful about the symptoms to take timely precautions,” said Dr Jaiveer Singh of the Department of Opthalomology at the Fortis Hospital.
Proper hygiene is the key to control conjunctivitis. You also need to maintain some distance with the infected persons. Sharing their clothes and handkerchiefs, and even shaking hands with them is a strict no. Do not let the virus spread. Against the conventional belief, wearing dark classes does not make any real difference in conjunctivitis and these can at most be used only as a cosmetic veneer, Singh said.
“This season, along with pure conjunctivitis, we are also witnessing cases of keratoconjuntivitis. In this, both the cornea and conjunctivas are infected which results in the blurring of vision. In pure conjunctivitis, there is redness and watering of eyes but the vision does not get blurred,” explained the doctor.
