“We are very much behind Yousuf and fighting his case. We have hired lawyers in India and our legal team has also gone there for the purpose of defending Yousuf before the arbitration panel,” PCB Chairman Nasim Ashraf said.
“We are hopeful that the arbitration panel will give a final verdict at its next hearing,” he added.
The rebel ICL has contested before the arbitration panel that Yousuf first signed up to play for them and later dropped their contract and signed up with the Indian Premier League (IPL) which he should not be allowed to do.
The ICL has also filed for damages against the batsman who has not been bid for by any franchised team in the IPL for fear of legal problems.
Ashraf also said that IPL had guaranteed the same signing amount (USD 350,000) to Yousuf which he was to get from the ICL even if he didn’t play for any team.
“He will not suffer any financial losses that is for sure. But we are keen to win this case and see Yousuf playing for some team,” Ashraf said.
Yousuf has blamed the PCB and the Indian cricket bosses for their failure to ensure he got a chance to play in the IPL and was part of the players auction.
