Guwahati Dejection writ large on his face after losing the ODI series to Australia, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said his team lost today's do-or-die match in the first 15 minutes itself.

Dhoni's gamble to bat first on a tricky track boomeranged and the match virtually slipped out of their hand by nine overs when the home side was gasping for breath at 27 for five.

"During the toss I said that the first half hour will be crucial for us but the first 15 minutes proved more than enough," Dhoni said after the match.

"We lost quite a few wickets after that we never really were in the game," he explained.

With today's win, Australia took an unassailable 4-2 lead in the series.

Indian giant cricketers cannot perform well even on Indian soils. India never lost match at Gauhati but today by real bharatiya on 09 Nov 2009

Mr. Dhoni, yr confession does not serve purpose. U all senior players played irresponsibly. While Jadeja & Praveenkumar show u how to stay & attack on oz bawlers. Moderate target in Guahati made Indian bawlers helpless. No bawler can defend such target (171 runs). If our giants cannot play well on Indian soil, how can we expect good game from them on overseas pitches?

sachin cannot maintain consistency in his game. earlier match he made 143 by real bharatiya on 09 Nov 2009

Once again it has been proved that though sachin is playing since 20 years, he cannot maintain consistency in his game. In earlier game he smeshed 143 runs but he failed in very next match. It was Azhar who hit 3 successive centuries in his first 3 tests. Even today, Azhar is on the top in the list of good match finisher of India. 17000 runs does not serve any purpose. A man who plays for 20 years, runs can be come but consistency in giving victory to India is not sachin's habit. Sachin, Raina played very bad shot in Hydrabad & India lost.

Why blame Sachin why not Dhoni? by Manisha on 09 Nov 2009

I see some speculating Sachin's innings have come at wrong time not able to win for India....Some one who opens and lasts till 7th 8th wicket...doubting his patriotism is so darn communal and immature...I can not believe it.Probably that kind of thinking is root cause of anti-nationalistic thinking...which we see everywhere!

6th ODI at Guwahati by Rajendran on 09 Nov 2009

Dhon's decision to bat first after winning the toss was very surprising. In spite of knowing the pitch conditions and early morning dew as also past experience, the decision to bat was very shocking and against the interest of millions of Indian cricket fans. I think Dhoni has become very selfish by not consulting with the seniors or anybody in the team. BCCI should seriously think about his Captaincy skills. India lost golden opportunity to clinch the series because of Dhoni's poor decisions through out the series... Also BCCI should restrict Indian crickters from Advertisements...

One Day by Rakesh on 09 Nov 2009

BCCI wants money and big corporates provide money. They want in return the players for their advertisement so that they can get returns on their investment. Its funny to know that Batsmen were given rest. Filders who can not field put an excuse of flu. Even a 10 year old boy with flu would prefer to stand in close rather than on boundary and rather may not play at all. The BCCI is wasting rare talents like Raina and Ishant by exposing them to too much Cricket. And players now want to be models.... no commitment like the Aussies had.

Cricket by JC Mulla on 09 Nov 2009

Indian team is plagued by toothless and nailless tigers like parasites of the likes of Sachin, Dravid. Similarly, Dhoni doesn't enjoy the flexibility to temporarily kick out non performers like Gautam, Virender. To top this a dumbo like jadeja is heaped upon and he is asked to play with bowling attack which is weak. No team wins cricket witha weak bowling attack. That is why India will unable to be reign supreme.

Dhoni must be rested by arun lal on 09 Nov 2009

Dhoni is mentally and physically tired from too much cricket, modelling and advertising. He is making making seriously wrong decisions on the field and is no longer providing the required leadership to the team. The guy needs to rested from cricket for 6-7 months to let him focus on his commercial activities.

Bad Decision to Bat irst by sampath on 09 Nov 2009

The decision to bat first by Dhoni was probably influenced by his phobia over D/L method in case of light failure. The conditions were not too good to start with and we could have xploited this to claim their top wickets if we had put them in.

wicket by sam on 09 Nov 2009

very surprising people cann't home wickets what will they do overseas

Australian Strength by Michael on 09 Nov 2009

It's very concerning for India that they could not beat Australia, with 9 first choice players unavailable (Brett Lee, Nathan Bracken, Michael Clarke, Callum Ferguson, Peter Siddle, Brad Haddin, Tim Paine, James Hopes, Moises Henriques

Dhoni by JK Singh on 09 Nov 2009

Dhoni took wrong decision twice in the last two matches. Once he decided to field first in Mohali. Then he chose to bat first in GUahati in the early morning.

Winning by Raj on 08 Nov 2009

It is perfectly ok to lose a game. However, Keeping in mind that Ausralia had a weak team, it will be a noble thing for India to stop claiming that they are the best team in the world. Also, we should stop saying our players are the best in the world just because they hit a century once-in-a-while. Best batsmen and bowlers must be choosen from the winning teams.
