Faizabad The BJP on Saturday sought to turn the tables on Congress over the administrative reforms committee report which, according to the saffron party, ‘blacklisted’ Darul Uloom Deoband and demanded an apology from the grand old party in this regard.

BJP national general secretary Vinay Katiyar said there was no question of banning the Islamic seminary and said, "We should be proud that we have Deoband like Islamic centre, which gives religious direction to the rest of the world."

Quoting from the second administrative reforms report submitted by senior Congress leader Virappa Moily, he alleged, "On page 27 and 28, this report has blacklisted the Darul Uloom and accused the seminary of having contacts with terrorists and Pakistani leaders involved in anti-India activities."

Now the Centre is left with only two options:- if the report is correct it must take action or ban the institution and if wrong, Congress should immediately seek apologies from the Muslims.

Meanwhile, Deoband chief rector Maulana Marghuburrahman demanded that the Centre make the report public.

Shoot the eitors and jurnos by Reva on 09 Jan 2009

This is absolutely crap by Media. See the heading of this article. Society has to follow srilankan way for taming media. Just assasinate them by covert operations. Those who dont think whats good for nation and write on basis of what is good for their commercial benifits needs to be shot dead. India does not need "Intellectual Terrorism"

Bad education, Bad media, Naive public 3 by Subramani on 06 Jan 2009

A family that thinks unless their children study in schools beginning with a St., basic right to education has been violated. These are people who think that opening cheese farms to help milk rot is what Indian agriculture needs. In between all of this they have to comment about people who they think are responsible for their lost love on a Valentines day, or for their pop icon not stripping on stage, thus depriving the audience of the same standard of performance that is found in Las Vegas. We will have our sweet revenge! they say, and thus RSS/Shiv-Sena/Bajrang Dal/Abhinav Bharat/etc are all united by the media and turned into most sucessful coalation and the ignorant public also laps it up! These organizations are so different that for the naive patron of the Indian English media, it will be impossible to even begin understanding the differences, and why? because they know nothing about the agenda or ideolgy that they represent.

Bad education, Bad media, Naive public 2 by Subramani on 06 Jan 2009

Furthermore some, who have sunk into levels of intellectual depravity till now unkown to humankind, have started equating Taliban with RSS. Looking at their "path of progress", it seems that they will get the NObel prize for accusing children who play violent computer games with Taliban and Al-quida. The international media is a bit more clever at manipulating, as at least their lies are more well researched and try to prempt difficult questions in advance. Which is why they have come up with words like "Hooligans, hate crimes, racial violence, militants, aremed gunmen and finally terrorists" to differentiate between various kinds of hateful activities. The Indian media however decides to just stick to one term for all of the above, "Terrorism".

Naive comments -result of faulty education system and a below average but manipulative media. 1 by Subramani on 06 Jan 2009

The people whose policies have been implemented in our educational system need to be lauded for their clever minds. They are extremely clever but not wise as their vision is only to satisy vested interests. Make India modern, make Indian's ignorant of facts about their country, and last of all, instill a sense of purpose on every Indian to feel proud while doing braindead activities that help western countries or that just create a platform that is ripe for plundering. It is not suprising then to see comments from people who have no inclination to use thier intelligence give by the supreme. What is it that usually stops someone from speaking the truth? Usually it is fear. Fear of being ridiculed, fear of not able to prove the truth or fear of not being accepted by the kind of people they normally associate with, people who carry an intellectual/progressive/change for good kind of tag. It is amusing that people talk of RSS and Shiv Sena in the same breath.

Shame shame. by S Bose on 05 Jan 2009

BJP should stick to it's vote bank and not play Congress like appeasement tactics trying to please fundamentalists.Deoband is the ideological father of the Taliban. Why isn't it banned ? Why is BJP saying "we should be proud' of Deoband ? This is not Aligarh Muslim University !I used to think BJP will bring in hope for this country. But with tactics like this, I wonder if any of our political parties have the long term vision and commitment to this country or do they only think of scoring points over each other? All BJP supporters please take a note of this issue and question your local leaders why this is being done. Please study the ideology of the Deoband and see for yourself if they are in the larger interests of the nation.

Deoband Doctrine by kowstuba on 06 Jan 2009

Let one thing be clear. The whole world is in the grip of the Islamic Terror with the Terrorist Automic Republic of Pakistan. The Wise Chanakya says that the enemy is only secondery but the SOURCE from which the devilish thought is breeded is the primery target to defeat the enimy. The thought, belief of the muslim scolers regarding the other faith/religion is derived from KORAN shich is inturn beeing taught in the Islamic centers. Unless such interpretations which infuse the hate and "demand JIHADI" are removed, the ISLAMIC terror can not be defeated. We have an example of how british created a black skined britishers in INdia by Mccalay education. By not recognising the Islamic Relegious Education and encouraging the Secular Scientific Education the shadow of the Madarasa can be removed and the whole community could be saved by which the Whole world can be saved. SO ENGAGE WAR ON THE JIHADI DOCTRINE ALSO WHILE FIGHTING THE JIHADI TERROR" -

What BJP can do? Hindus themselves are not supporting BJP

the comedy of commisions by RAMDAS on 04 Jan 2009

its time one gives some powers to the various commisions.there is no wrong in the commission suggesting that the money coming from abroad may be tinged with terror groups and the teachings are motivating people for terror.the same holds true for hindu/sikh/christian groups which claim supremacy of their beleifs.there is should be no incometax benefits and state patronage for any charities/religious organisations/schools/political parties/organisations if they r exclusive to a group.there has to be proportionate representation for groups in all activities of charity with govt support

BJP,the spineless by Ramesh Chandra Anand on 04 Jan 2009

BJP is the party craving for the indulgence of Muslims for their party and for than BJP can go to any extend, including supporting Deoband, known for its anti national and even anti Hindu policies.

Sacred Institute by Ameen KN on 04 Jan 2009

Dear Friends,Please do not confuse yourself between Islam and Terrorism. Deoband is as sacred as Kanchi Kamakoti for Hinduism and Vatican for Christians. Not all the Madarsas preach terrorism. If you doubt Deoband its like disbelieving your neighbor who is a Muslim. We all hate terrorism to the core and vow to fight against it, whoever organizes them same as any Indian. In this time of disaster on the edge of Mumbai like incidents we all have to show solidarity and create avenue to avoid such things in future. Instead of, complicating the issue by pointing to everybody who is bearded or wearing Topis. BJP is correct to demand apology from Congress.

Question ? by S Bose on 05 Jan 2009

Why is then called the ideological head of Al-Qaeda and Taliban if it's supposedly good?

BJP and deoband by J.M.Manchanda on 04 Jan 2009

What a spirit! It justifies holding of Iftar parties by BJP leaders like vajpayee and M.L.Khurana huging the Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid. The positive stance of BJP towards Muslims is also proved by L.K.Advani declaring jinnah to be a secular leader while paying homage at his grave. It calls the bluff of Congress, Left and other pseudo-secular parties that BJP is a communal party and reveals its true secular character.

Fallability of moral judgement by romesh.sharma on 04 Jan 2009

As always Indian politicians have no sense of diplomatic language and speak of the things in exaggerated manner which bring shame and disgust to the orgs/institution oand the Party. Why the India has to be proud of Deoband?Islamic orgs have full freedom in India and they can have that solong they don't indulge into anti-antion and anti-Hindu(majority) activities.Has Katyiar fears that if Deoband is banned the next it can be ShivSena or RSS?If the ruling Party, though treacherously involved in vote-bank politics, has substantial evidence against Deoband there has to be no hitch to Ban this or other org/party.Anyone or group seen jeopardizing Nation's security and interests has to be banned. Its absolutely light-headedness and act of low intelect to say "We should be proud of Deoband".

Deoband by Aravind on 04 Jan 2009

Congress need to come out straight and clean. If it really think Deoband is to be bannded, they should take action immediatley, rather than waiting for the next election. We have so many reports and recommendations which are allon the shelves! Afzal guru is still waiting while we still probe Mumbai carnage. What shame of inefficiency. The government of India should know that it is an insult to Indians at this age of Information Technology where India claims to be on top, to let loose on such important issues. Everything is done to increase efficiency and speedy justice is very much a part of it.

Religious outfits by J.M.Manchanda on 04 Jan 2009

The next thing BJP would do is to defend SIMI as well. There is no end to petty party politics and so long there are such people amongs us . we don't even need terrorists to destroy us. Whether a particualr seminary should be baned or not is a decision which should be taken on merits. However BJP only wishes to exploit it politically. The argument that all religiousity-driven schools should be banned in a secular set up is valid. Unfortunately, it will be BJP itslef which would jump to protest when it comes to curbing so-called sadhvis and saints spreading hatred in the name of promoting Hinduism.

Secular does not mean anti-religious by Malkesh Adesra on 05 Jan 2009

Mr J.M. Manchanda,as far as the idea of secularism goes, it does not mean for a country to be void of religion-driven schools. Secularism has tolerance at its base. It's not about neutralizing all the religious sentiments of public. It's a shame to even write such comments. That can very well be termed as a nazist thought. Besides,I find your comment as an oxymoron in itself. You are ridiculing BJP for protesting against the reco of a ban on deoband. The last statement says that UNFORTUNATELY, BJP will jump to protest... for hindu saints. Ofcourse it will. The whole story directly leads to that thing. IT is there utmost political weapon. The whole state of politics in our country unfortunate.

Don't worry, with obama as president, terrorism will stop. Yeah right. Expect more terrorism with him as president.

Twisted heading, twisted reporting. Read full statement, and shame on the "journalist" who wrote it. by U N S Ecular on 04 Jan 2009

The "journalists" who twist the words and headings of the report like this one should be counted on par with terrorists, since they are their aiders and abetters, and shot like them. The complete statement says that if the report by Moily that Deoband has terrorist contacts is correct, ... the Centre is left with only two options:- if the report is correct it must take action or ban the institution and if wrong, Congress should immediately seek apologies from the Muslims. Can IE editor make sure that this journo does not have a career anymore?

BJP is right by Vikas on 04 Jan 2009

Deoband is a nationalist organisationand not just a religious one. it did the right thing by passing Fatwa agaisnt terorism. BJP is 100% right in supporting Deoband. Can people who are opposing BJP on this give one reason as to why Deoband should be banned? Please present some hard facts rather than rhetorics..

Bending over backwards for Muslim votes by Ajay on 04 Jan 2009

The Deobandi teaches that "Infidels should be killed etc."I say BAN them.

Shame on PTI by Mahesh on 03 Jan 2009

i cant but feel ashamed at how much plagiarism goes on in Indian from the US media in particular. The grand old party is the name of the republican party. I would expect more originality from the PTI. Shame on you editors for not being original.

Anti Indians Poliety by Santosh Palekar on 03 Jan 2009

for those who thinks BJP is nationalistic, here is the true face of BJP. An disclosed evil (congress) is less dangerous than undisclosed enemy (BJP). But the biggest unfortunate thing is that we have to choose one out of them. I am ashamed with our polity. Jai hind

BJP is opportunistic by Amrith Rao on 03 Jan 2009

It does not matter for the country what the BJP says about any group of minorities. The saffronites are all opportunists, trying to gain out of every statement. At this juncture, it is as important to fight against the saffron terror as much as other kinds of terror in the country. Unfortunately one kind of terror feeds on another. If Ayodhya had not taken place, the Gujarat carnage was prevented and those who cause communal riots were dealt with firmly and quickly, the Mumbai tragedy would not have taken place. Those fanatics responsible for hate crimes against minorites must be booked and severely dealt with. We are all citizens of this country and it is the BJP and its affiliates that is trying to divide. Let us begin a national campaign asking for banning of all parties that use religion and work for a secular India. It is unfortunate that even the Congress seem to compromise on secularism. Opportunism is bad for all parties. Let us unite for India by denouncing all hate-mongers

Just shut up by Sandeep R. on 05 Jan 2009

Mr. Rao, why do you stop at 1991 Ayodhya in your history. Go further back. If Babar had not destroyed the temple, 1991 would not have taken place. Anyway, no one was killed in the 1991 event that traitors like you associate with being 'root cause'.

Katiyar's gamble by Baatul on 03 Jan 2009

Katiyar must realize that this spin will not get 1 additional vote from Muslims. But, many of the Hindus will certainly move away from BJP. I'm one such Hindu.

Threat from within by Raj on 03 Jan 2009

With people like Vinay Kattiayar living freely in India, thret for India is not from outside but from within. These RSS maniacs should be send to Afan to fight Taliban. Both have similar ideology and let them fight it over.

nonsense of reports and committies by Ahmed on 03 Jan 2009

this is just unbeliveable, deoband is is the same institution who oppsed jinah for his two nation theory for which it was named as "Hindu math" by many fundamentalist hindus during the era of partition, its schlors are well known all around the world for its clear thoughts importance of nationaism in any socitey, congress should made public the report so that world should knows what kinda people sitting in those committies who commit this kinda nonsense.

Deoband by Vandana on 03 Jan 2009

Deobandi school of thought is said to be the ideological nspiration of Al-qaeda.If BJP is supporting it now ,it is because of political reasons.Should Deoband be banned.?...I don't think so.Bans just drive organisations underground and harder to track or reform.Deobandis should be left alone so that they react to the nation's mood and institute reforms from within as and when required.

people just comment without knowing the whole truth by satyanveshi on 05 Jan 2009

you dont even know that. Just half baked media reports. BJP is right in saying deobandh is good for India. They are the only front liner islamic institution that calls for respect and modernization as against fanaticism.
