Washington, February 13: Seeking early conclusion of the nuclear agreement with India, the United States has said that the Washington will continue to work with New Delhi to pave the way for civilian nuclear initiative to happen.

"What I can say about that initiative, which is the civil nuclear arrangement between US and India, is that it's something that we would like very much for our country to be able to enter into agreement with India because we believe that nuclear power is a good thing for the environment and it's a good thing for powering both electricity for homes and for businesses," US Press secretary Dana Perino said.

"A country like India needs to think about how it's going to diversify its resources, not only for how it makes sure that the lights turn on when the kids are at home trying to do their homework, also because they are facing environmental problems," she said.

"This agreement is one that we have done very carefully, through the State Department, and trying to work with India.

We would hope that they would see the benefits in it, and we continue to work with them to try to make it happen," Perino said.

The Spokesperson was asked if the President George W Bush had been in recent touch with the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the matter.

"I don't think they've been in touch recently. But, obviously, at the State Department they're in touch with them (India) quite regularly," Perino added.

The USA ruled ssecretly by THE INTERNATIOBAL BANKERS IS VERY GREAT THREAT TO INDIA! by immoral dirty crstyn on 14 Feb 2008

India is in EXTREME danger from the USA,if the latter, ruled secretly by the INTERNATIONAL BANKERS,maintains this thick-skinned and intimidating stand,after;-1.The Congress party threw in the towel, regarding this issue by NOT proceeding further and showing NO interest.2.The Indian Parliament disapproved this DEAD and ABORTED deal. I FEAR FOR INDIA FROM THE WEST IN GENERAL and the USA in particular.

US civil nuclear deal by megh on 13 Feb 2008

Yes I agree to the fact that we need a civilian nuclear agreement but the cost of it should not be a compromise of the ability of India to undertake its own R

The lack of cost-benefit has been amply described too in one of the articles penned by Mr. Shourie on the pages of IE.

Congress politics is to blame !? by withheld on 13 Feb 2008

Irrespective of whether or not the wording in the 123 agreement is acceptable to India, it is a simple legal principle that the provisions of the enabling legislation, namely the Hyde Act will prevail and those statements touted as addressing India's concerns - if at all they do -will be void. The nett benefit being a majority of nuclear reactors of India becoming under the IAEA safeguards in perpetuity, which the US was never hiding from its reasons to go for the deal. Getting India into the NPT fold through the back door, in effect ! The question that the citizens of India should ask is can that be called a benefit for India, especially when everything seemingly is going in its interest in the global arena by accident or by design. Perceived issues of foreign-policy-independence and not being able to test nuclear devices are just peripheral to the reality.

N-deal by Sudhir on 13 Feb 2008

Instead of dealing with Rashtra (India), USA should start dealing with MAHARASHTRA (Big India). Rashtra is unable to deal internal problem, probably Maharashtra will let the deal done. Please try. Rashtra is now impotent.
