Web tech is the future, experts tell students

Ludhiana, January13 Quest Infosys, Regional Centre of Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, under distance education pogramme, organised a seminar on “Web technologies - today and tomorrow” at the Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town.

The seminar commenced with a welcome speech by Wing Commander S.S. Arora (Retd.), placement officer, Quest Infosys.

The resourceperson, Anoop Gupta, Director of Cyberframe, introduced the subject with a brief history of Internet. He enlightened the students about the scope of web technologies by giving examples from day-to-day life. He added that e-commerce meant a way of doing real-time business transaction via telecommunication network, when the customer and merchant were in different geographical locations.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that today web technology was in its infancy stage. He added that in future web technology would be mandatory not only for big organisations but also for individuals. He further informed the students about the job opportunities which will be available in the field of web technologies in near future.

Nitin Kapoor, manager Regional Support, Quest Infosys presided over the seminar and appreciated the speaker for presenting a seminar in an efficient manner. He advised the students to work hard and acquire the latest skills in the field of information technology.

PAU staff demand solution to pension crisis

An emergency meeting of PAU Employees’ Forum was held at the Punjab Agricultural University to discuss the pension crisis in the university. The meeting was presided over by D.P. Maur, general secretary of Joint Councl of Trade Unions of the city and ex-president of the PAU Employees Union.

D.P. Maur said that the government should resolve the pension crisis at the earliest as pensioners were facing hardship in the absence of regular payment of pensions. He said while the pensioners had made several requests to the authorities to release the pensions, all their pleas had fallen on deaf ears.

Scholarships distributed to girl students

Senior Citizens’ Conclave, a non-government organisation, distributed scholarships to girl students of 11 colleges and students of SDP Senior Secondary School, Hazuri Road.

Rakesh Bharti Mittal, the chief guest on this occasion, emphasised on the need to ameliorate the lot of the poor. He also announced the grant of Rs 5 lakh for the SCC scholarship scheme, to be named after his father Shri Sat Paul Mittal.
