Ahmedabad, December 7: Seeking to turn the tables on Congress on Sohrabuddin issue, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that the remarks made by its leaders Sonia Gandhi and Digvijay Singh were ‘also violations of election code of conduct’.

Jaitley said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi came to Gujarat and referred to Gujarat government and its Chief Minister Narendra Modi as ‘merchants of death’.

"Then Digvijay Singh talked about the existence of Hindu terrorism in Gujarat", he said.

"These remarks made by Sonia Gandhi and Digvijay Singh are clearly violations of Election Code of Conduct," Jaitley claimed.

"It is an attempt to spoil the poll-atmosphere of Gujarat," he remarked.

"We believe that Bharatiya Janata Party has full right to reply to such remarks," he said, adding the remarks made by Modi in connection with the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case was just a ‘political response’ to the remarks made by his Congress rivals.

"Before serving notice to Modi, it would have been better if the Election Commission had issued notices to both the Congress leaders for violation of Code of Conduct," Jaitley said.

"We will give a respectful reply to the notice that EC has served to Modi," Jaitley added.
