Sydney, January 7: Australia vice captain Adam Gilchrist has dismissed Indian captain Anil Kumble's criticism about the lack of sportsman spirit among the hosts and said his teammates don't regret their behaviour in the Sydney Test.

"Though I have not seen his comments or heard him, but that's what I have been told about. I think that's not right," an unrepentant Gilchrist said.

"Definitely we don't feel so and we are not sorry about anything. I do not know what he is referring to," Gilchrist told CNN-IBN.

Enraged over the on-field antics of the Aussies, Kumble, had earlier said that only one team was playing in the true spirit of the game.

The match which gave the Australia a record equaling 16th straight Test win was marred by poor umpiring and ugly on-field spat between the two sides.

India bore the brunt of umpiring blunders by Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson and the dubious dismissals of Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly on the last day cost them the match.

Gilchrist, however, was not ready to dwell on the controversies and preferred to savour the thrilling win.

"We obviously enjoyed the end result. Both the teams at any point of time in the game could say they have the upper hand and the other time forth back.

"So it's topsy-turvy and we just grabbed it from the jaws of the draw I guess. At the end it was thrill. At some of the controversial ground, there was lot of talking points but yeah look we got through," he said.

The Aussie Bandwagon by Pradeep on 08 Jan 2008

Well the unrepentant attitude of the aussies reeks and it shows that they will stoop to any level to maintain their win record and continue to play mind games with the opposition to win The 'blind umpires' also seem happy dancing to the aussie tune blissfully to help them in their cause. The BCCI should wake up for once and show some mettle in calling off the tour unless Bhajji is cleared.

Cricket by Suesh Gupta on 08 Jan 2008

I have read this news in today's newspapers. Gilchrist defends his team's behaviour and says that Australians are not sorry. He is wrong. To admit a mistake and to say sorry, one needs a very strong character. Peter Roebuck has written that Ricky Ponting has turned a group of professional cricketers into a pack of wild dogs. Can one expect an apology from Australians now?

cricket by david black on 08 Jan 2008

How bizarre! Symonds gets insulted, in India and in Australia, and HE should be banned. India should abandon the tour and only play Bangladesh from now on. They'd probably still find something to whine about.

Gilchrist by R Sridhar on 08 Jan 2008

The gentleman title for Adam Gilchrist who was considered a 'walker' is no long longer valid. Its plain chaeting by him to have claimed the catch of Rahul Dravid in the second innings of the SCG. Australia's one aim was to somehow achieve their 16 wins in a row and thy were ready to stoop down to any level. The umpires on their part also played well into this Aussie thinking and successfully supported them.Team India should act tough and immidiately abandon the tour to checkmate the on field Aussie behaviour.

disgrace by Francis on 08 Jan 2008

Jaffer, Dhoni, Yuvaraj should be banned for 3 Test Matches. Yuvaraj can have his honeymoon back home. He is a disgrace to the country

Cricket fan by Ghosh Gautam on 08 Jan 2008

Play in Sydney only if Bhajji is cleared and Bucknor is removed. Actually Symonds should be banned from cricket for 10 years.

Procter is nostalgic about something he should not be.. by Ds and jack on 08 Jan 2008

BCCi has not thought the alternatives. It is more than just the Bhaji gesture. The gestures Bhaji did to Lee are common in NFL (national football league ) side of the world. Lee should come in open to express his displeasure, why has Symonds has to butt in.Instead of BCCI officials being bribed for lost revenues, they need to arrange matches in India to be played with ICL WORLD XI Team A, Team B, Team C. Have guts to find a different way to solve problem instead of being pressured about lost TV revenues by the televisions and BCCI. The above was in response to :"BCCI working committee is holding an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the standoff and firm up its strategy. With both sides likely to suffer financial losses and an unprecedented disruption of the cricketing calendar if the Indians return, Cricket Australia seemed anxious for an early de-escalation. James Sutherland, CA chief executive, said he was confident the tour would progress and asked Kumble and his Australian counterpart Ricky Ponting to sort out their differences."

Sydney Test by Lucky on 08 Jan 2008

We been talking about poor impiring for Dravid's dismissal in 2nd inning. Why don't we question gilchrist's honesty as he appealed for a caught behind when he can clearly see that ball never hit the bat. Their is no way he can miss that.

Hit them where it hurts! by sharan on 08 Jan 2008

I am as outraged as any indian and appreciate the outpourings of emotion in the country. But you know what, being a NRI and settled abroad,we understand that all these displays only shock them and sometimes even draw a chuckle out of them! Hence the only place to hurt them is where it really hurts viz..in the commercial world! Will the so-called giants of Indian advertisement and commerce industry show any loyalty towards their own men and ban adverts, commercials and even movies involving the aussie cricketers!! Do they have it in their heart to do that? Will the public force them to ban their lucrative contracts? Do not forget the only reason India has a say these days is because of our commercial power and that's the only place where it hurts them!Otherwise they would have discarded us away by now without even a byword!

We're not sorry: Aus vice captain by HG on 08 Jan 2008

Of course gilchrist, you were never ever sorry even when Greg Chappel asked his brother Travor to bowl under arm to secure a win against NZ. There are millions of examples of your past and present cricketers using dirty tricks to win the game by hook or croock and I am not surprised that you are proud of it because do you know which blood running in your vein? Just go and check who your ancestors were and how did they end up on that land which you are claiming to be your own country now and you will find the answer. Of course it's not you but your blood is speaking and it's not your fault either because after all if you are monkeys then you would sound "hoop hoop", you can not roar. (sorry monkeys for insulting you by comparing you with australians!!!!)

So much for outrage;but will the indian commercial world really standup and be counted? by sharan on 08 Jan 2008

No morals by Jayho on 08 Jan 2008

Gilchrist After the comments you have made and the way you guys play cricket its not "gentlemans Game" anymore...But i think its more approriate to call it "CONVICTS GAME"

Pot calling Kettle Black by Con on 08 Jan 2008

Indian cricketers themselves have said in the past that it is well known that one never can approach the Anglo nations and ask them to cheat because they have integrity. Half your crowd was openly racist in the Indian game and your team or any of its officials didn't even admit it. Ofcourse the cricket board would take an Australian cricket player's word over any Indian players.India has a racist, filthy cast system, how could anyone expect the Indians to even have racism in their vocabulary.

Caste....Human... by vrh on 08 Jan 2008

Con, TO have a caste system you need to be humans first. Sorry, but you GOT to meet that criteria first and then we shall talk! ;-)

Pawar and ICC ChairmanShip by Sunil chanan on 08 Jan 2008

Gil-NO-christ! by Ramesh Bupathy on 08 Jan 2008

Gil"christ"...! You're not deserved to hold 'Christ" in your name! Don't you guys feel shame on yourselves!

We are not sorry by Rajagopalan on 08 Jan 2008

Need of the hour is cool head. As Greg Baum said in his Sydney Morning Herald article, everyone should take lesson from Ishant Sharma's handshake with Andrew Symond. Cricket Australia some how work towards lifting Harbajan's ban. They shouldn't have let things go this far in the first place anyway.

Thick skinned and Unprofessional by Krishna on 07 Jan 2008

It is upsetting that the person and team I held in some esteem could have stooped to such low levels to savour a win.

Yeah the end-result by Apurva Gaglani on 07 Jan 2008

There is some truth in Gil christ's talk, they played for the record 16th win, the end-result with the umpires with them at their help.

Shame on you, Mr. Gilchrist by PB on 07 Jan 2008

So Mr. Glichrist, you JUSTIFY and are NOT sorry about using *ANY* means for jsut a bloody test win and a record? Your team cheated (Ponting claiming a bumped catch, Clarke claiming a bumped catch), nothing to say about your "catch" to dismiss "Dravid." All that is fine, just don't come to India. People of your morals are not allowed in our society. Your sportsmanship is for all the world to see -- you are a wolf in sheep's clothing. SHAME on you and to your parents for having brought you up in this way. The past is past, I at least hope your kids have a different moral compass than you do. But int he meantime, do not come anywhere near the sub-continent, play your cricket anywhere near and pollute our kids with your morals. That's a sincere request. Thank you.

Aussie bullies by Sridhar on 07 Jan 2008

Win at any cost is the motto of the Aussies. It seems it is Ok when they sledge and use abusive language but when it comes to sledging them including calling nasmes they seem to object. Sportsmanship is meant for others according to Gilly the bully. However, when it comes to them anythiong goes including false claims and tellinglies for dismissals

Demeaning and Disgusting by Jayakar Dalavai on 07 Jan 2008

What a disgraceful show of the true character of Aussies! I have no words to express the frustration of a billion fans. Now, BCCI should unflinchingly come out with a conditional plan of action whether to abandon the tour or to continue with conditions that would scrap second test out of records due to admitted and obvious poor umpiring and withdraw the penalty on Harbhajan. India cannot take it lying down; BCCI must shed the thoughts of financial losses and stand up for the right cause. Indian fans can more than make up for its losses and teach a lesson to the arrogant Aussies and racially biased ICC. India has the strength to run a parallel cricket organization. Let not any BCCI member think of their positions in ICC in the best interests of Indian cricket and its fans.

Need Second match annuled or re-match and all the false charges withdrawn by ds on 07 Jan 2008

The second match should be annulled for umpiring fraud and all false charges against Bhajji withdrawn. We stay with wrong and that means we agree/comply to false charges. They are clever to put India in confusion, what battle will India fight1. Fraud umpires2. Bhajji decision3. Rematch/Annul of 2nd test or walk out.4. Usage of Afro Buknor/Symonds to play politics and slam Indians.5. Writing divisive caste articles about Indian players

Cancel the tour by venkat on 07 Jan 2008

Cancel the tour unless they remove Ricky Ponting and change the umpires. Oz may be no. 1 team but India has economic clout to make them regret their behaviour.

ghilly i used to respect you.. by sukhi on 07 Jan 2008

Dear Ghilly,I used to respect you as a person as you like to walk. Surely you would have your says to your team mates about thick edges.. im sure you are feeling for the indians and im sure you would say this needs to be looked into.. i used to respect you , but you saying you dont know what the indians are talking about has just made it like as if nothing has happened in your eyes. Why dont you look at the catch ponting claimed to have caught, and clarke standing when caught at first slip ? Why dont you comment on dravids of the pad. Everybody in the world of cricket can differentiate the edge of a bat and pad noise. For God sake wake up to yourselves guys and absolute shocker. To say you play in the right spirit i think you need to have a read and look at what ive mentioned a bit further from an unbiased point of view.Cheers and Good luck.

Ponting by selvaraj natarajan on 07 Jan 2008

Ponting and his men are devoid of being called human beings, they are a rare breed of human parasites who will go to the extreme of getting what they want even if it unethical. Shame !!!
