as long as poverty is there there will be reservations. not all muslims are given reservations.the clans of khans,syeds,jaffers,shah are excluded from rewervations.in india 80% are poor people and they cannot afford education.a person living in tribal and hilly area cannot competewith an urban and well resourced person,but once reservation benifit is gotten next generation he should be excluded,but the same group are against exclusion of creamy layer.let water resources be nationalised and let government built dams everywhere people doesnot need any reservations.because it is a costly and time consuming process government is giving a temporary phenominon so as to sustain the soceity in the main stream.in the west and USA blacks constitute 10 to 15% ,though they are poor but government is agaisnt as their number counts.but in india weaker sections constitute 80% and no government can sustain without helping them,either for votebank or physical support.

Does this mean that if I am poor, and desperately need a job, I can do so only by converting to Islam (since I cannot convert to SC or OBC)? People convert for flimsier reasons than that -- marrying a second time, divorcing quickly. What stops them from doing so for jobs? What is the WB government going to do when the poor keep appearing in large numbers for jobs after conversion, and the number of Muslims in the state goes from 25% to 50% to 100%? Then Buddhadeb will not be able to remain Buddhadeb, commie or not, he will have to turn into Ismail Khan. A commie who supports China and reserves jobs on the basis of religion and uses democracy to divide people.

Original reservation for SC?STs were for 50 years. No party wants to lose vote bank so they kept extending time limit.Then comes OBC.Now Minorities. No one is worried about harmony & peace in between citizens. Poor people from so called 'upper class' are victimized. Not only that but citizens of India r divided on basis of caste, & started hating each other. Person born after freedom is 60 now. His grandson was breathing in democratic India & his father & Grandfather were given benefits under quota so he is equal or better with other class of society.Only solution now is to reduce quotas of SC/ST/OBC by 2% every year & discontinuing when it's over. Giving reservation to Muslims is absurd.It's dividing people on basis of caste/religion.Every one is interested in retaining power for themselves but not worried about national issues like border protection, naxalites problem & corruption as all they want is money & power. India will be like Russia by this & regional politics.

This is a potential time-bomb that will destroy India. For poor people getting jobs means everything. There will be lakhs of conversion from Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, etc. This will encourage other states. This will lead to a religious civil war. What is Congress doing? They are far superior than British in breaking India!

No country in the world has reservation based on religion. A country divided on religion cannot survive. This will be a black day for Bengal, as well as India. Though the communists were reeling with losses from Mamta's party, no one thought they will stoop so low. Unfortunately this may become an example that other states may follow. All other religions, Hindu, Christians, Sikhs, Jains etc must protest and stop voting for Communists throughout the country. But going by history, reservation can be made, but not undone!

it is good decision taken by rulling govt.though there are many adverse effect of reservation,i personaly felt being a minority people.,but oveiall better.it would be better if minority[mostly muslims] people were in better position ecomically,educationally,..as other/ majority.i personally feel,there is/was [r] no clear cut decision [dd] for recruitment in job.that is why,according 2 sachar committee,below 1pct [p] service muslims. [men] anyway,it wl be better if implentatn occurd in rit way.otherwis coruptn wl be main stream.it is for needy family..nt for rich,more than rs 4.5lakh annual incom.tza

Just expect a hasty spree of action from other states and in states that dont allot quota expect some riots backed by ISI. I thought it is time to slowly remove the quota system bring equality, but it is no surprise as every other state moves forward, West Bengal spirals backwards.

what a disaster for backward state like west bengal. I would accept this limited quota on one condition. i.e. lots of bangladeshis were allowed to enter west bengal since creation of bangladesh thus reducing the threat of east pakistan. such decesions are to be specific to states like west bengal only. it should not be misunderstood or implemented in all indian states because that would make india incompetent & unfair to meritorious candidates. muslim population will keep on rising everywhere,doesn't mean they can have it their way always. national welfare system needs to be changed if not demographics of population control.

I AM NOT AGAINST RESRVATION,BUT RESERVATION ON RELIGEOUS BASE IS NOT HEALTHY DECISSION.PEOPLE OF ALL RELIGIONS ARE COVERED UNDER SC ST AND OBC,HENCE THERE SHOULD NOT BE SPECIAL RESERVATION FOR ANY RELIGION.

I am thrilled that West Bengal govt has accepted 10 percent reservation for the muslim community. The percentage of Muslims is 25% in the state. Its a pragmatic approach at the right time. The communist Govt have to reveal the true concern to the muslim community, who stood by them for more than 25 years. Congrats Buddadev for the right announcement.

Welcome decision from west Bengal govt, only hindus were getting reservation from the time of independence, are only hindus (dalits or whatever they tag) are eligible and other religions are not backward,. Actually I am against any kind of reservation and jobs should be on merits and reservations if any should be on economical condition irrespective of religion and cast

West Bengal might announce a quota of 10% for the Muslims or any other group that professes to be disadvantaged, but that quota for jobs should be restriced to not more than 1 person per family. They need to think of the disadvataged in the majority community too.Also a disadvantage should be built in the quota system which will ensure that the system does not turn a blind eye to the root cause of poverty, i.e. having half a dozen children or more and then claiming to be poor due to a situation of your own making. The WB govt should not let vote bank politics overrule every decision as in the past. Let us hope Buddhadeb opens his eyes and not appear to be like some statue in an Indian temple, the world be damned!

it is good decision taken by rulling govt.but there may be a chance coruption.bcz,needy family may not get the certificate on the basis of annual income.in otherhand,rich family may get the economically poor certificate..and who will recognise these?who will give the certificate?and 5yrly evaluation should be done.and there is no definite demarcation/specific documentation in which places the reservation applicable?either only in jobs or also in education?if only in jobs,then how education wl b cmpleted?[q[ rather why nt in education.?without education,no man will get the job...
