Western Railway ‘B’ reign supreme

Mumbai, January 21 Medium pacer Venkat Mudaliar (3-36) and off-spinner Bhimesh Shah (2-22) helped Western Railway 'B' defeat Reliance Energy by seven wickets and claim the Times Shield ‘B' Division title on the third day of the four day final at their home ground at Mahalaxmi ground on Thursday.

“We lost the final last year against Police, but this time we did not miss the bus. I got full support from my players as they played each game with responsibility,” said winning captain Vinit Mehta.

Reliance Energy resumed today at 69 for 6 with Sachin Vichare (21) and Nilesh Kulkarni (5) at the wicket. After the addition of 20 runs, Vichare was bowled by medium pacer Venkat Mudaliar for 27.

Mehta then took the wicket of Vinay Dandekar, who was well caught by Bhimesh Shah in the slips for 9. Viabhav Kendale was run out for 1.Nilesh Kulkarni, who was holding the one end, was last man to be out lbw to left-arm-spinner Nilesh Chavan for 28.

Brief score: Reliance Energy 148 and 115 (Sachin Vichare 27, Nilesh Kulkarni 28; Venkat Mudliar 3-36, Bhimesh Shah 2-22) lost to Western Railway `B' 209 and 55 for 3 (Vaibhav Kendale 2-25) by 7 wickets.
