Mumbai, November 8 The city’s six million train commuters’ wait for a comfortable ride is soon to be over as the Western Railway is set to roll out the first of the 157 new trains from Monday.

“We will induct the new train in our circuit and start its services from Monday (November 12),” said Satyaprakash, divisional railway manager, Western Railway. The new 12-coach local train promises a more comfortable ride with better ventilation and passenger information systems on the exteriors and inside the trains.

Besides the roof-mounted ventilation package units, the windows are larger too, fitted with polycarbonate lookout glass. Other features include modular switches for the fans, injury-free fans, lighting along the central aisle and emergency fluorescent lights.

The coaches of the new local will have a dual colour scheme. This train, which is designed in Germany was brought to city in August and is part of the World Bank funded Rs 4,500-crore Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP).

The train, over three months, has cleared a series of tests ranging from detailed signal interference test, speed and braking trails, etc. The train was recently given a safety certificate by the Chief Commissioner Railway Safety of WR.
