External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said India will cooperate "as and when" necessary but ruled out a joint investigation in the attacks.
"Whatever information we get from Pakistan, we respond to it. But information must be made available through official channels and not through media," he told reporters in New Delhi.
He said India is ready to cooperate with Pakistan "as and when it is necessary" in its investigation into the Mumbai attacks and in this direction referred to the material provided to Islamabad about linkages in that country.
"As far as joint investigation is concerned, I have told you we are having investigation," he said.
After being provided the dossier of evidence on Mumbai attacks, Pakistan has sought more information and in this regard given a list of 30 questions.
India has said it is examining it and will provide whatever information is possible.
Mukherjee made the statement as Pakistan's High Commissioner Shahid Malik met Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon to discuss aspects related to the Mumbai attacks.

Every time Mukherjee opens his mouth, he sems either waiting for the postman to deliver the Pakistani response or making statements to put India on defensive. It is so ridiculous that he and his men can’t see the motives behind every Pakistani move. Mukherjee
Bengali Babu, Pranab, has to improve his English to use the right words when responding to Paki requests and statements. Pranab's responses sound like words of an underling.
We have forgotten the talk of getting the terrorists in India for trial. Both Pakistan and India are killing time and nothing will come out of this. Pakistan wants to dilute the charges and Indian leaders want to do actually nothing on ground but show to the public that they are concerned. Let the elections pass we will hear nothing about it. Life has become so cheap.
