Accompanied by senior party leaders Dinesh Trivedi and Mukul Roy, Banerjee visited the Congress 'War Room', where negotiations are being held with the UPA allies on the portfolio distribution.
They remained closeted with Congress leaders A K Antony and Ahmed Patel for almost an hour. "There is no talk of bargaining (for ministerial posts). ... We have not discussed this. What they (Congress) want, they will do. Even if they don't give us anything, we don't mind," Banerjee told reporters after her meeting.
This was the third round of negotiations Banerjee had with top Congress leaders on the matter but she has been publicly maintaining that Trinamool Congress had no demands.
However, sources said the party is keen on Railways, Coal and Mines and Steel portfolios which, it feels, are critical to West Bengal economy. It was also eyeing the portfolios of Health and Home Affairs at the Minister of State level.
Both Trivedi and Roy, who accompanied her to the Congress office, are the front-runners for Cabinet positions from the Trinamool Congress. The party is understood to be expecting at least two berths in Union Cabinet and three Ministers of State.
The Trinamool supremo said she wanted her party's relations with Congress to "remain good. .... More important than ministerial positions is to have stable government."
After her meeting with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday, Banerjee held a round of discussions with Ahmed Patel last night.
Thursday's meeting was the third round.
Asked specifically whether she would like to become the Railway Minister, she said "we haven't spoken anything like that. There is no bargain."
She said "political atrocities are still continuing. We will have to work for development, stability, peace and secularism" and also promised to work for the development of industry and agriculture in the state.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Partho Chatterjeee said that Banerjee had made it clear that she would not hanker for ministerial positions.
"Our party has not set any conditions," he said and parried a question whether Banerjee herself would join the Cabinet saying "I do not know because I am not part of the Trinamool Parliamentary party."
Senior leader Dinesh Trivedi said "we are solidly behind the Congress and we want this Government to last its full term of five years."

If parties are supporting the UPA it is for a selfish reason and not for the good of the country. I feel sorry for India, she does not deserve this by illiterate politicians. Mamta and other leaders who are supporting the UPA should have argued educated and competent people to be put in charge of ministries. Would Mamta or Shibu Soren, Kanarudhi ever get a job in the private sector? NEVER. All they are good at are politics which has become a dirty game in India. The Prime Minister should make it clear and be firm about telling them that he will decide who is best as a ministerial head.
1. There cannot be two arguments so far as Didi Mamata Banerjee is concerned. She is special and precious atthe moment to keep up the tempo in Bengal State whichhas come up after 35 years of Red rule.2. Dr. M.Karunanidhi has gone back to Chennai as not being able to get the required representation of seatsin Union Cabinet. Dr. Karunanidhi has been supportive and timely in providing every kind of assitance to UPAGovt and though he was in bed he met every one to savethe UPA Govt after the withdrawal of support by Left. I find that leaving of Dr Karunanidhi back to Chennai it appears things were not negotiated by the negotiators. Would strongly suggest to Learned Prime Minister andChairman Mrs Sohia Gandhi to himself intervene immediately and gather the party to ensure that DMK aspirants also takeoath today the 22nd May 2009. We are to serve and serve verycohesively the people of the country. Without prejudice.
Arun,Making CM of Rabri was a state Tragedy.Rajiv's making of PM after Indira Ji's death was the national tragedy. They ignored many exp people in Congress itself. And please stop taking Bihar as an example...Many more examples are available. By cursing Bihar, people show they are obsessed and not genuine concern raisers. We we ourself can't think rationaly and in a balanced manner, how come we expect the same from the Netas?
Only criteria - one who can win. Nobody cares for his/hers Educational qualification, professional achievments, (Tharoor, Sibbals are exceptions). And what can make a candidate win? - Family name ends with "Gandhi" or if you are wife/daughter/son of an elite personality? Mrs. Rabri Devi was CM of Bihar - it should have been called a National Tragedy. During interviews - her answers were prompted by Laloo himslef and audible, and after this do we expect that cheating should be stopped during tests. Natural calamities will come and go - But to cleanse sins of Rabari will need centuries. Calling oneself as "Garib" does not hurt self respect of any Indian. The life in Cetral Asia only a decade ago, after the fall of USSR, was unthinkable - but we never came across even one person who called himself poor - and no leader talked about eradicating poverty. Our Representatives look at us as Beggars, poor and every day shatter our self respect with such words. Is Mamta then an exception?
Why people are against Laloo as a former Railway Minister? Why can't people stop looking at the past and look at the present form?Laloo performed and as long as he does so, i really don't understand why to curse him?He did a great job as a railway minister and this should be praised along with all curse to him as a Bihar CM.
Did we all not know this is going to come after the election? All starting with Sharad Pawar, Lalu, Mulayam, etc. wanted to bake their own cake thinking that after the elections, they would come out so strong that they could hold the Congress by the neck. Force it to sit at the table and place demands, demands and demands, exactly like Karuna is doing. He wants plum posts. After all the party's treasury (anybody's guess) has to be filled. We elect such leaders who don't have India at heart. It is the personal treasury which is more important. Before the election all wanted to be PM; just name them and they were for the post. Now all want the lucrative Ministries. How beautiful India would be, if we just did not have our politicians.
Wasn't this the same lady who repeatedly told the media with much piousnerss that it was not important to get a cabinet berth
Both Trinamul Congress and DMK will be nonentities in their respective states without the congress support. The congress must realise this and show them their place in the emerging setup.A.M.V.Alagappan.
In democratic terms it is defined as unconditional supportis not it?
All these so-called allies are back showing their true colors. It’s well planned loot. Unfortunately for Congress party, it ends up with such losers as its allies. Then they come back to put a gun on your head for their demands. Mamta is no stranger to greed. The communist mentality will not easily die in her. They are good for nothing and if Congress has to hand over important portfolios to such duds, God help India.
This woman is not a team player. Railways is the largest employer and major economic artery of the country. She has neither the technical nor the managerial skills to understand the scope and vastness of the Railways and will prefer to run it with impulse and most likely its contribution to the country's annual budget. If she can't get her way, she may even withdraw her party's support to the govt.
In a DemoCRAZY either RAIL R O C C O or be a RAILWAYS Minister !!!
This is not the cake which had been baked and people are invited to take part of the cake. This is the slain carcass of a beautiful animal called democracy!!!!Over which the foxes, the wolves and hyenas and eagles fight to get their share. We killed the democracy the day the President, the PM, the CJI the CEC, the CBI, the executive , the legislature the judiciary all were made subservient to AICC chairperson. With the appointment of PM through Backdoor such things are bound to happen.
Mamta, can go fly kites!! She really is a politician that our country can do without. Making demnds is the last thing we need from people like her, who in the first place should neverhave been in politics! But such is the state of affairs in most parts of India that th adage: "Andho Mein Kaana Raja" works well among the poor and the downtrodden.I pray that Mr. Manmohan Singh and Soniaji put their foot down and ensure that only those politicians that have the interest of the country before their very own are selected as ministers.
In Bengal, the party who shows more negativity and hatred wins the elections. Whoever tries positive development would be consigned to flames. Thus, Left Front won all this while because it fanned hatred and negativity. And when Buddhababu started positive things, Left Front is sure to loose. Bengal deserves nothing better.
Mamta must have learnt from Lalu that there is a lot of money to make in the Railways. Or, was her father a Station Master and she loves the railways? A strange demand/condition, indeed, from one who claims to be dedicated to serving the people.
We appeal to the propective Railway Minster to offer comforts to senior citizens. Our experience during past 3 travels to Chennai, Hyderabad and Coimbatore...we, husband and wife (75
after singur, she doesn't deserve confidence
Wait for the fun.DMK is hard bargainer.TC wants many things.Pawar is waiting . If not, those oppurtunists like BSP/SP they want 'congress flesh' also. Lalu is hanging outside the door but want to enter. Most of the enthusism is going to vanish and if economy start going down.Singh
Mamta as a Minister of Railways earlier, we all know, spent most of her time protesting in Calcutta. I have a suggestion for Sonia Gandhi and the PM- make Mamta a Minister of CPM
My sensible suggestion in allotment is instead of pleasing somebody and displeasing somebody else the best way is to prepare lottery or chit of various posts and open in the presence of all aspirants. The chits must be opened by children who are not children of contestants. The members must be gided by the results without murmuring.B S GANESH, BANGALORE
Here we go. The blackmail starts. Jobs should be given to the right people who can deliver. UPA should not forget that the most important people are the people of India and not the tin pot politicians.
Having 18 MPs in hand, Mamata Banerjee can not 'live' for a day without Railway Ministry. She lots of unfinished thing to straight out what she could not do when she was Railway Minister in NDA government. Congress better heed her demand or be prepared to be doomed. Remember, She is not dumb as Lalu or Paswan who were always eager to take orders from Sonia JEE.well, Hellow UPA, The FUN game begins!
you have been rly minster before and we all know what the hell heppened. we know your forward thinking on global econmoy thruough the tata nano project issue. in the intrest of the nation it is good not to have any on from WB to hold key portfolis like infrastructure, railways because you would take the economy 10 years back.
Please mind Mamta's brain to control heavily interlinked Industries of Steel, coal and mines and Railways. It may even choke the Tata Steel etc with vengeance.
