With India fast becoming a nation of serious wine drinkers, it is no wonder that the Great Wine Festival at Delhi’s Metropolitan Hotel generated a lot of interest among wine connoisseurs. There was a full range and variety of wines from 18 countries, both new world and old, for guests to savour.

While the wines from Chile were a big hit, the newest entry on the block were the Moroccan wines. With strong aromas of peach and pear, exotic mango fruit and almond, these white wines have a round, crisp palate and are perfect accompaniments to elaborate starters. “That region simply never has a bad year, unlike all the other regions, be it France, Italy or even America. But their production is very low and almost 80 percent of the produce is consumed in the country itself, so we don’t get to taste the Moroccan wines as much,” explained Vipul Shah, director, The Metropolitan Hotel.
