Chandigarh, February 6 With the weather conditions showing no signs of improvement, the UT Education department has decided to extend the holidays till February 10 for primary classes up to Class V. The classes will now resume from Monday, February 11.

The school hours for other classes have also been changed. The single shift schools will run from 8.30 am to 2 pm. In the double shift schools, while the morning shift will be from 8 am to 1.15 pm, the evening shift from noon to 5 pm. Teachers and other staff members working in the evening shift will, however, have come at 11.30 am. The new schedule will be applicable from February 11.

Director Public Instructions (Schools) S K Setia has issued circulars directing both government and private schools to strictly implement the decision.

Some schools have, however, taken their independent decision. Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, will remain open for the primary classes also, though the timings have been relaxed to 9 am for the next two days. According to a press note issued by the school, the students missing the work done in classes will be informed by the school. The dress code for the students has also been relaxed for the next two days — up to Friday.

Most other schools in the city have decided to go with the department’s decision. At Mount Carmel School, Sector 47, the classes will begin at 10 am when the school reopens on February 11.

Schools in Panchkula will resume their regular work from Thursday, with the administration announcing no further closure. All primary classes will resume on February 7.
