Wipro PDC completes 7 years; plans to start engineering division

Pune, March 6 With the completion of seven years in Pune, Wipro is looking to expand its operations in the city. The establishment of an Engineering division is also in the pipeline, which will cater into design requirements of the customers.

Wipro Pune Development Centre (PDC), which was started in 2000, has diverse business activities like VLSI, embedded telecom, enterprise application services, banking insurance, securities and capital.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, Sharada Nandakumar, location head, PDC said over the years, the centre had witnessed a rapid growth journey and the company has serious expansion plans in Pune. “Today we have more than 8,000 employees working in PDC-I and PDC-II that includes IT and BPO operations. And within one year the company aims to double the strength of the employees and make it at par with the Bangalore centre,” she said.

It is learned that the company planned to roll out its engineering unit in Pune to tap the opportunities in the automobile sector and the one coming up at Pune might be the main centre in the country. The PDC is also hoisting many of the key customer relationships of Wipro and are also into service line business such as e-enabling, microsoft business unit, apart from training.

To mark the foundation, Wipro PDC has chalked out a week- long celebration at its campus. Christened ‘PDC Utsav’, the celebrations culminate with two events on Thursday and Friday. The event on Thursday was called as Yuva Habba or the youth fest that was an event for campus recruits of the development centre. Apart from participating in contest and quizzes, they had a tete-a-tete with Ranjith Gadgil, lead India finalist, who was the guest of honour for the event.

On Friday, cultural night will be celebrated with more than 4,000 Wipro employees participating in it. Talent hunt, fashion show and DJ night apart, the event will also have Wipro Pune’s rock band Harmonix playing at the event.
