Panchkula, March 10 * Ward number 19
* Area — Sector 12A, Railly Village
* Category — General
* Overall rating — 3/10

The residents of Sector 12A of the city are at the receiving end. With deep potholes and non-functional streetlights, the residents are suffers of the official apathy.

Little spell of rain and the residents find it difficult even to move out of their houses. To add to their agony, streetlights are out of order which leads to frequent accidents on the roads of the sector.

The councillor of the ward opines that almost every kind of developmental work has been carried out in his ward and he would be contesting the coming MC elections on the basis of his performance.

Residentspeak

A resident Viney Verma said, “It’s hardly been a month ever since I shifted to Panchkula, the scenario is pathetic. The roads are really in a bad shape.” He further added the problem becomes all the more serious when vehicles have to pass through such roads in the middle of the night. With no streetlights in place, commuting becomes an uphill task.

Similar sentiments were echoed by another resident Mohit Sharma. He said, “The market in the sector is worse. With thousands of jhuggis having encroached the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) land, the authorities have failed to do the needful. There are around 1,000 jhuggis. On an average, 10 people live in each jhuggi. This vast population has engulfed the sector. Hundreds of children from these jhuggis are seen attending to nature call sitting on the roadsides, while the elder ones use the public toilet that were otherwise created for market.”

For Geeta Sharma, a resident of the Railly village, water logging is the main problem that needs to be answered urgently. “We have complained to the authorities many a times but our request has fallen on deaf ears. The sanitation condition in the ward is bad with a large number of stray animals creating havoc in the ward”, added Sharma.

Councillorspeak

Talking to Newsline, the councillor of the ward, Balwinder Singh said, “I think all the major developmental works in the ward have been done. It is on the basis of these works that I will be contesting the coming MC elections. We have not only re-carpeted the roads but also tackled the problem of water logging.”
