Constitutional Law by Raju Bharatiya on 13 Oct 2008

Art9 read with Art58(1)(a) of the Constitution of India makes it very clear that even bona-fide Indians, who voluntarily take up citizenship of a foreign state, cannot occupy the President's or any other Contitutional post. Then how come out right foreigners like the Congress President has been allowed by the Election Commision to contest and become an MP, when the same EC had debarred Mr Jayant Singh, a grandson of former PM Choudhary Charan Singh from contesting in an assembly election on 14Apr2004, because he was holding a British passport.
