Khanna, March 8 A paradoxical situation arose when a woman was barred by Khanna police to enter the pandal and later took into custody at local Grain Market where a seminar was organised in connection with “International Women’s Day.” The seminar was organised by Punjab Legal Services Authority and Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Vajinder Jain, was the chief guest.

The woman, Kamaljit Kaur, a resident of Bija village and a leader of BJP, was later booked on charges of tearing the dress of police constable and obstructing police from performing duty. When the incident was brought to the notice of Chief Justice by mediapersons, he directed the district administration to look into the matter.

Sources told Newsline that Kamaljit Kaur wanted to express his views at the seminar on ‘Female foeticide’. Sources said the pandal police prevented her and took her into the custody. An eyewitness said that she was thrown forcibly into police vehicle by police officials and was also beaten up when she resisted.

City police station SHO Gurcharan Singh told Newsline, “Kamaljit Kaur tore the dress of constable Kulwant Kaur and scuffled with constable Amarjit Kaur.”

When contacted, Khanna DSP Gursharan Singh Bedi said, “Kamaljit Kaur wanted to give lecture but she could not be allowed as the names had already been decided.”
