Gurgaon, January 17 The body of 27-year-old Kamlesh was recovered by the Gurgaon Police in Sector 7 extension on Thursday following a complaint of dowry death by the victim’s father. The father, Raj Kumar, a resident of Bhiwani, is a retired government official and was visiting relatives in Faridabad on Wednesday when his son-in-law Sunil Prakash informed him that Kamlesh had committed suicide at her in-laws’ home in Gurgaon.

Prakash runs a shop dealing in cell phone connections in Sector 7. The couple got married in November 2003 and have a two-and-a-half-year-old son.

According to Kumar, his daughter was harassed for dowry from the day she got married. “As we are simple people, she was making the best of her marriage and never thought of separation,” said the victim’s father. He has registered a case against Prakash and his mother Sudershana at the Sector 5 police station. “They say it was a suicide but I am sure they strangled my daughter to death before hanging her and making it look like a suicide,” said Kumar.

The police have not found any suicide note. “We are still investigating the matter and the allegations of the father and husband,” said ASI Abdul Saeed. “But we are sure there has been some foul play because no woman who is happy has a young child would commit suicide unless she is driven to it,” added the police officer.

According to the police there were no external injuries on the victim’s body except for some marks on the neck.

Prakash was called in for questioning today but the police released him to perform the last rites of his wife and said they will arrest him tomorrow after they receive the postmortem report.
