Ludhiana, January 16 The girl students of PAU today celebrated Lohri on the campus, in front of the Museum of Rural Life of Punjab.

Students took part in the kite flying competitions held on the occasion. The colourful kites and the bright clothes of the students gave a festive look to the campus.

A Lohri bonfire was lit. The students sang Lohri songs, and ate rewaris and groundnuts. The students recited poems on women empowerment, and the menace of female foeticide.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ramesh Kumar Sadavarti, Head, Department of Landscaping and Floriculture, said that we all should pledge to shed laziness, and perform our duties with enthusiasm and punctuality. Heads of the Departments of various colleges, faculty members, staff members and students were present on the occasion.

Dr Neelam Grewal, Dean, College of Home Science, said that parents must allow their daughters to excel in their chosen fields. She added that women are no longer a weaker section of the society.

The College of Home Science has a tradition of celebrating major festivals and historically important days, for creating awareness among students about the richness and significance of the events.
