NOIDA, March 5 The Noida Authority today stalled construction of the CNG and PNG pipelines in the city for the second time in as many months, sources said.

While officials of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), which is laying the lines, say they have been informed of the move, Authority officials have refused to comment.

The residents who had been expecting the availability of piped gas at home, have come out against the move. N P Singh, president of the Federation of Noida Residents’ Welfare Associations, said, “With problems in getting LPG cylinders increasing, residents were expecting the gas pipelines to provide relief. This move is certainly uncalled for.” Autorickshaw owners have threatened to go on strike if the move is not withdrawn. A union leader said, “Going to filing stations in Delhi is difficult. Long queues affect business as well.” “Problems in commuting will crop up for residents if autorickshaw unions go on strike,” Singh said.
