On the occasion, Dr A S Sekhon, principal, GSMCH underlined the need to train medicos and paramedics to bring down infant mortality rate.
Infant mortality was one of the biggest causes of death of a child within 28 days of the birth. There was an urgent need to train paramedics in neo-natal life support so that the infant mortality rate could be brought down, Dr Sekhon said while inaugurating the workshop.
Dr Yogesh Chhatwal, professor and head of the department of pediatrics from the Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, with her team participated in the workshop as a facilitator.
Meanwhile, 450 patients were examined at a free medical camp organised by the GSMCH in collaboration with the Punjab Pradesh Balmiki Sabha Centre Committee at Sirhind.
Didar Singh Bhatti, a local legislator, felicitated Dr Sekhon on the occasion.
Dr Sekhon said the GSMCH was running courses in paramedics, for which 12th pass students were eligible. This was being done to provide vocation training to the youth even while the college was running a full-fledged MBBS course.
The camp had been organised by the Balmiki Sabha in memory of the late Ujagar Singh Chadha. The Chadha family on this occasion donated a Maruti van ambulance to the Balmiki Sabha.
