Vadodara Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) B S Bhabhor said: "Tudvi was an auto-lifter and a burglar. The police had arrested him just a day before and obtained his remand when he managed to escape," Bhabhor said.
The convict's flight has caused the Vadodara police a considerable amount of embarrassment.
Incidentally, this is the fourth such escape within a fortnight. Just three days ago, eight inmates in the Halol sub-jail managed to break out of the jail after sawing through a ventilation window, while on May 30, a dacoit gave the police the slip while being escorted back to the Dahod sub-jail from a court in Jhabwa in Madhya Pradesh. On June 3, five dacoits managed to break out of their cell in the Dahod sub-jail, but were unsuccessful. One was shot dead and the others were nabbed after an alarm was raised.
