Damini said, “I had secured the sixth position in the National Championship of Yoga held at Jharkhand two months ago. I have dedicated a lot of time to practising yoga and am confident about doing well in Kolkata.”
Jubilant over the selection of his trainees, Surya Vedant, the Yoga team manager, said,”Both Damini and Gunjan are among my thirteen trainees who have been selected for this national competition. I am proud of the fact that they have lived up to my expectations.”
Damini’s parents too were overjoyed by the selections. Her mother Mitu Mahajan, a home maker, and father Vinay Mahajan said, “We are happy that our daughter has succeeded in proving her talent. We hope she does well.”
The other eleven students selected from the city include Damanpreet Kaur, Tanya, Lovik, Tanishk, Peeyush, Vrishti, Akshay, Atul Tripathi, Ashutosh Tripathi, Palak and Keerti.
Damini and Gunjan were selected in May for the World Yoga Championship. The championship was to commence from June 1 in Egypt. But both of them had to give up on their dream of participating in this prestigious event when they were not able to secure sponsorship for the same. Damini was selected for the Kolkata championship after securing the fifth position at the All-India Yoga Festival and International Championship held at Surat in February.
