Vadodara, January 12 Baroda's under-19 cricket team returned home on Saturday morning to a rousing welcome after winning the Cooch-Behar Trophy at Hyderabad.

Fans thronged the Vadodara airport to cheer the team, which won all six Test matches at the tournament that began on December 2. Officials of the Baroda Cricket Association were also present there to receive the players. It is for the first time that the team recorded such a victory.

In the final, they defeated Punjab by 28 runs after setting a target of 289. Punjab was bowled out for 260 as Baroda captain Swapnil Singh and Achyut Reddy ripped through their batting line up, taking five and three wickets respectively.

Swapnil, a Class XII arts student of Ahmedabad-based National Open School, said, "There were some nerve racking moments which made the (final) match interesting in the last few overs. But we put forth our best effort and won it."

The 17-year-old skipper, who is the youngest in the team, showered praise on the players, saying, "Baroda under-19 team has shown an exceptional coordination throughout the Cooch Behar Trophy."
