Chandigarh, February 1 An apparent kidnap bid of a 13-year-old was foiled on Friday. Sachin Bhardwaj, a resident of Sector 15A, said two youths waylaid him and were trying to hypnotise him.

It was only after a family friend saw them, he was rescued and one of the culprits caught. But the police was initially reluctant to take any action against him or register a case. They finally did so on the insistence of the boy’s parents.

“Around 4 pm, when I was going to my tuition, a youth stopped me and asked about an address,” Sachin said. “Then he told me that he had powers to tell the future and if I did not listen to him, one of my parents would die tonight.”

Then another youth appeared, who called himself Abhishek, and “the first youth started reading his fortunes.” Sachin has no idea what happened next. “When I regained consciousness, I was at home,” he added. Ramesh Chand, SHO, Sector 11, said: “It was only on suspicion that the locals caught the youth. There was no proof that he was hypnotising the boy. But on the complaint of the family, the youth, who is from Bijnor, has been arrested under Section 109 of IPC”.
