Youth run over by tractor on Pakhowal road, driver arrested

Ludhiana, January 2 A Youth was run over by a tractor-trolley on Pakhowal road this afternoon. The driver of the tractor has been arrested and his vehicle has been impounded.

According to the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, tractors can be used only for agriculture purposes.

The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Arvinder Singh, a resident of Phullanwal village on Pakhowal road.

According to police sources, the accident occurred when Arvinder Singh was on his way home on a motorcycle.

Sources said he had bought food from a restaurant.

When he crossed the traffic lights on the Sidhwan Canal bridge, a tractor-trolley laden with sand, ran him over.

Passersby caught hold of the tractor driver and handed over him to police.

The driver of the tractor-trolley has been identified as Kesar Singh and his vehicle has been impounded.

He has been booked in a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving.

Arvinder Singh was a budding model and had featured in videos of some Punjabi songs. Singh’s body has been sent to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.

DSP (Traffic) Satvir Singh Atwal said they are planning to intensify their drive against tractors being used commercially.
