Z plus security: ‘Upset’ Dhoni walks away alone

Apparently unhappy with the inadequate security provided to him, Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni went to the Birsa Munda airport in Ranchi without any 'armed men' to fly off to Chennai, claimed a former coach of the wicket-keeper batsman.

"Dhoni's security is inadequate. His brother-in-law Gautam has approached the Jharkhand police on more than one occasion," claimed Dhoni's former coach Chanchal Bhattacharya after the cricketer left for Chennai early Thursday morning to participate in the team selection meeting for the Test series against England.

"Dhoni left for Chennai without any security for the team selection meeting," said Bhattacharya.

Jharkhand Sports Minister Bandhu Tirkey, however, denied the claims, saying that there was any laxity in Dhoni's security.

"I spoke to the police chief and learnt that there was no issue with Dhoni's security," he said.

"I appeal to you all not to exaggerate things and concentrate on coverage of National Games beginning February 15," Tirkey added.

The Sports Minister has held media responsible for blowing up the issue regarding Dhoni seeking a license for a .9mm pistol.

Jharkhand Police spokesman S N Pradhan said that Dhoni had been given 'Z' security which was adequate.

Asked whether Dhoni had asked for enhancement of his security, Pradhan said, "Rather he is unhappy over too many policemen guarding him."

How about Hockey, soccer, shooters and boxers.? Mr. Dhoney get lost. Provide your own security or tell BCCI to provide one.

BUSINESS, by Vinod Dawda on 05 Dec 2008

Mr Dhoni should pay for his security or BCCI should do it. At the end of the day Mr Dhoni represents many businesses who pay him well. The tax payer should not subsidise this business so heavily.

Shame by mallanna on 05 Dec 2008

i remeber chetan sharma taking a day off from a test match and attending one of his exams. and this guy doesnt take the exam saying he was too busy playing cricket that he didnt had time to prepare. this explains.

Z security by Pramod on 05 Dec 2008

Mr Dhoni,If you are so scared to come out alone stay back at home and dont waste our money to pamper yourself and increase your status symbol. Indian cricket can live and move on without you.Shame on you to create this issue when india is going thro this crisis

cricket by face of truth on 05 Dec 2008

Its all right, we enjoy their cricket and cricketers got well paid for it.But I say BCCI has to arrabge the security for cricketers not the government by the tax money from public.

dont waste taxpayers money by viapillai on 05 Dec 2008

someone as filthy rich as dhoni can definitely afford private security personnel so why should the taxpayers money be wasted

dhooni security issue by nimmi on 05 Dec 2008

Z Security For useless persons. by Parimal on 05 Dec 2008

I really don't understand the need for providing Z security to sportsmen. They aren't contributing to country's national value nor does the common man benefit from them. When these chaps earn crores, why do the taxpayers need to pay for these people? It is a additional burden on already manpower crunched security forces. It's better if security is enhanced at airports, railways, atomic research centres, oil rigs etc. Look at corporates:- They pay for their security then why not sportsmen especially when they earn sometimes more than a CEO??The only people worth security are people like APJ Abdul Kalam who have devoted their entire life for the nation. Give Dhoni his 9mm pistol or even an AK-47/56

Z Security- Not from my Tax Money by lsundar on 05 Dec 2008

What for Z security for Dhoni or for that matter any cricketer?? Who pays for this?? As a tax payer I am not interested in paying for security of the Cricketers or for that matter any politicians and film star. If they think that they need security then they need to pay up or their organisation should pay for. I hope BCCI pays for such security arrangements for the Cricketers.

Grow Up Dhoni by Subroto on 05 Dec 2008

What the hell he think of himself. When the whole country is under threat , he is not satisfied with his own security.Cumon men behave like a responsible person.

Thats True by Sindhoo on 05 Dec 2008

I dont no what the cricketers think of themselves, but I request them to be broadminded , As they are paid lumsum money, cant they afford to have their own security,I was a fan of Dhoni till now,but now,I m no more a fan of him,Shame on the part of him.

SPEND OUR MONEY by ANAND on 05 Dec 2008

I THINK THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS INDIAN CRICKETERS AND PAID ACCORDINGLY. WHY GOVT. OF INDIA SHOULD SPEND OUR MONEY ON THEM. LET THEM HAVE THEIR OWN SECURITY TEAM JUST LIKE OTHER INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS.

who care for the tax payers money by ajay on 05 Dec 2008

Dhoni does not seem to be person, who can not afford his own security. Nor any threat to him is a threat to national security, then why the tax payers money is being wasted on him. It is high time we start using the security forces for what they are meant for that is providing security to this nation. Let us stop this nonsense right now.

Dhoni and his security by GK Iyer on 05 Dec 2008

India will progress the day we ban CRICKET and dump all these cricketers.GK Iyer, Mumbai

wake up and smell the coffee by gunjan on 05 Dec 2008

no matter who so ever it is z security is not to be distributed just like that....be it dhoni or a filmstar...fine you guys are popular but then this is not a reason the taxpayers money should be wasted on this instead of concentrating on the gaps in the security of the nation

Z-plus security - Why????? by John on 05 Dec 2008

There is no question of providing Z plus security to him. If he needs security he should arrange his own and pay from his earnings, not a single paise of our taxes should be wasted on such stupid people. Who the F*** is he to ask for z-plus security.

Z security for Dhoni - why by reader on 05 Dec 2008

Why should Dhoni or any cricketer be given police security? What have they done for the country -- yes they play cricket -- but is it of any value to the nation. It’s for their own benefit - money

Status Symbol by snallana on 05 Dec 2008

It has become a status symbol to have gun totting security around you, infact who would want to harm cricketers.

Dhoni's Security Detail by Bala Gogineni on 05 Dec 2008

I don't understand why the government and the public should pay for his security? He is not a high level public servant. If he thinks he needs security, he should hire his own security guards. Frankly, the government has pampered all these guys spending public money at the expense of country security

Show some responsibility Dhoni by Sivi on 05 Dec 2008

Who is paying for this security? If he wants security what prevents him from paying and getting the best there is... why blame the government for this? Why should the public pay for this?

PAY FOR YOUR OWN SECURITY IF YOU NEED by Anil Kumar on 05 Dec 2008

Dhoni, You are a simple player. You earn too much. In case you need security, HIRE THEM YOUSELF.

Use your head by Kum on 05 Dec 2008

Dhoni, don't you think every Indian needs Z ... security? Do't you think an India with better security is more important that Z .. for few? Why will we need Z .. for even PM of India when the security of India is beefed up.Use some of your gray matter before ranting like a kido.

Security for Dhoni...wtf by cal boy on 05 Dec 2008

Z plus security for Dhoni..is this real. I mean, come on guys...He is nothing but a cricket player..Its a waste of public money to spend money on these jokers. I wont even care if he is taking the bus or train...to wherever he goes to play....seriously this is crazy.

Dhoni by Varinder on 05 Dec 2008

His name is Dhoni not Amar Singh, Mulayam or Mayawati. Better buy private security guards from his earning of crores every month.
