Apparently unhappy with the inadequate security provided to him, Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni went to the Birsa Munda airport in Ranchi without any 'armed men' to fly off to Chennai, claimed a former coach of the wicket-keeper batsman.

"Dhoni's security is inadequate. His brother-in-law Gautam has approached the Jharkhand police on more than one occasion," claimed Dhoni's former coach Chanchal Bhattacharya after the cricketer left for Chennai early Thursday morning to participate in the team selection meeting for the Test series against England.

"Dhoni left for Chennai without any security for the team selection meeting," said Bhattacharya.

Jharkhand Sports Minister Bandhu Tirkey, however, denied the claims, saying that there was any laxity in Dhoni's security.

"I spoke to the police chief and learnt that there was no issue with Dhoni's security," he said.

"I appeal to you all not to exaggerate things and concentrate on coverage of National Games beginning February 15," Tirkey added.

The Sports Minister has held media responsible for blowing up the issue regarding Dhoni seeking a license for a .9mm pistol.

Jharkhand Police spokesman S N Pradhan said that Dhoni had been given 'Z' security which was adequate.

Asked whether Dhoni had asked for enhancement of his security, Pradhan said, "Rather he is unhappy over too many policemen guarding him."

Zplus security by kuppusamy on 04 Dec 2008

If Dhoni is not happy , he should employ more private securities for himself.I presume he is paid enough by BCCI for playing for the nation.I do not understand why government should provide securities?

Enough is enough by Shanya Rehman Alam on 04 Dec 2008

At a time like this, when the entire nation is talking about cutting down the security of politicians and such celebrities and provide it where its needed for better use than ward off fans... i guess its very shallow on Dhoni's part to act like this. Lets understand that we need to think deep and be a little more responsible. There's only so much security personnel in the country.. lets use it wisely to ward off terror attacks and not fans who come for autographs.

Gro up Dhoni! by Vikram on 04 Dec 2008

Shame on you Dhoni! Who the hell you think you are? Whatever you are today is because of the public. The same public will hound you in the streets when you fail for two-three seasons. So be sensible and use your brain, if you have one. Failures in India do not have any fathers. Grow up and behave. The government of India does not raise security agencies only to protect brats like you, but also to instill a sense of being secure in the minds of the common people. On the contrary, I think your security cover shoud be trimmed. You don' deserve any special treatment just because you think so. Take a leaf from your own teamate, Irfan Pathan. He thinks all indians need security. Stop whining. It's high time that commoners like us get the respect that we so deserve.

Z plus security by pandurang on 04 Dec 2008

just because he is the captain of the indian cricket team, it does not mean that dhoni should demand Z plus security, when the common man even does not have a simple security.it is basically against this type of special securities given to certain people that indian people are fed up of

Dhoni's squeamishness by ANIL MATHEW on 04 Dec 2008
