Mumbai Pacer S Sreesanth on Tuesday staged a surprise comeback into India's 15-member Test squad for the first two cricket Tests against Sri Lanka starting November 16 in Ahmedabad.

Pace spearhead Zaheer Khan returned to the squad after recovering from a shoulder injury, which had kept him out of India's recent assignments. The team to be captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni also includes Tamil Nadu players opener Murali Vijay and middle-order paceman S Badrinath.

Ashish Nehra, who did reasonably well in the ongoing one-day series against Australia, failed to get the selectors' nod.

Pacer Munaf Patel, batsmen Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli, who are playing in the series against Australia, were not consisted for selection for the three-match Test series. As expected, the veteran batting duo of Rahul Dravid and V V S Laxman retained their places.

Team: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, V V S Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, M Vijay, Pragyan Ojha, S Sreesanth and S Badrinath.

Mr. by Alex on 11 Nov 2009

Sreeshanth has more often than not performed reasonably well in the limited opportunities he has got. His contribution in the T20 WC was an important factor in India winning the cup in SA. Munaf has been a dissapointment in the current IND/OZ ODI series unable to complete his quota in the matches he played, his fielding and batting is below par. As for Nehra his fitness for the longer version is doubtful. Batsmen like Raina, Rohit and Jadeja have been given many opportunities and none of them could seize their chances as some of the other youngsters of other cricketng nations (Duminy, Trott, White, Paine etc) who have won matches for their respective countries. These guys are rightly called flat pitch bullies and of late they are not even good at that. Murli and Badri may perform better if they are given a good run in the team.

Teams for tests, ODIs and T20s will be different ! by Commoner on 11 Nov 2009

I am surprised at the reaction to the inclusion of Vijay and Badrinath in the team - they have done nothing wrong in the longer form of the gane and deserve to be in the team. Vijay is the backup opener and Badri is the backup middle order batsman. As regard Sreesanth, he has the pace and the talent, perhaps lacks the confidence & temparament currently. Selectors have a prerogative to make a few bold choices and why not Sreesanth ? Performance in ODIs and T20s cannot be a parameter for selection of the test team.

Team India by M.V.Muthu on 10 Nov 2009

In a deeper sense, the team selection exposes the whims and fancies of the selectors and especially the chairman. It is doubutful whether the Captain and the coach had agreed to this. How else can anyone accept selection of Sreesanth, Vijay and Badri in preference to a Nehra or a Tyagi or a Munaf Patel or Rohit Sharma or Raina or Jadeja! It is true that even the best team selected would evoke criticism but unfortunately, this is not the best team.

Inclusion of Sreesanth by murthy on 10 Nov 2009

It isridiculous to include the indisplined sportsperson of the centruy Srisanth in our cricket team. He lacks everything includein bowling in cricket. Even God will not save and we will continue to get defeat.

Sreeshanth by Bob on 12 Nov 2009

Murthy relax, K srikanth the Selection committe chairman and the rest are not dumb fools allow them to do their jobs if they are not efficient we will remove them from their posts

Inclusion of Sree by Ramesh on 11 Nov 2009

Muthu, let God takes the decision. You are not God. Don't forget the catch he took for the last wicket against Pakis and lift 20 20 world cup! The selectors are not fool. They have Vision . So calm down, wait and see!

Include new set of Players by Kannan on 13 Nov 2009

It is a better idea to include new Players to the side and allow them to settledown. We can go ahead with a bowling combination with Zaheer,L.Balaji,M.Gony,S.Tyagi. For ODI's include S.Badrinath as a stable middle order Batsman ,Include Ramesh Powar as Allrounder , Bring in new fresh faces.Retry Irfan pathan too ,if he scores consistently this season.

Selection by Pradeep Vidhale on 10 Nov 2009

Selection of the Indian Cricket team exposes myth that good cricketers make a better choices as selectors. Indian team has consistently fared badly in the last six months. Reposing faith in Sreesanth, Badrinath and Vijay is baffling. Equally astonishing is that we cannot find out good new players.

Zakeer returns by V.C. Sekar on 10 Nov 2009

Mr. Srikant is not suitable for this post at all. When he went to Pakistan and own the game and on coming back to India he lost his Captainship. Now he has given the same treatment to Mr. Rahul Dravid by sacking him again from one day match. What happend as usual Sachin and Yuvi played a good game in one match and failed in other matches and they will be retained in the one day team. By replacement of Rahul not done anything better than Rahul and we lost all the lost games to OZ. It is better these bunch of jokers should resign immeditely for giving very bad tretment to Rahul who is a dedicated and technically sound player helped India many times. Let them no insult this great player anymore. Sekar

Hope BCCI will put Sreeshant and Harbajan Singh in the same room - mates

Perplexed Selection Policy by Vinodhan on 10 Nov 2009

Not sure what was in the mind of selectors when they sat down to select the team....Pathetic performance in home series, CL and T20..Still Ishant has his place secured, Selecting sreesanth shows lack of bench strength and he needs to take lessons in budhusim to keep a calm mind on the field. Dhoni's captaincy has been wanting at times and he also needs a break to do some commercials...As far as quota system goes Srikanth has done his bit by getting in Murali Vijay and Badrinath...with the team batting line up I see them warming benches during the series or ocassionally carrying water....Hats off to the selectors for making such a negative policy statement

Sreesanth selection by Babu on 10 Nov 2009

Bad day for TEAM INDIA. This man should have been kept out of the team. This arrogant guy can only spoil our name

What name? by Ram Nath Babu on 10 Nov 2009

What name you are talking about, which Sreeshant is going to spoi? Indians have only one name in sports, whether it is cricket, hockey or any other game. LOSERS, that is all. On other fronts, we are called as 'dirty dogs'! That is the name we have got from other countries. Spineless government, indifferent people who are the laziest in the world, living remembering the glorious past of India. They have nothing to offer to present India.

R U serious by Amit on 11 Nov 2009

Ram nath babu ji you sound too negative, pessimist, i have 2 advices for you, committ suicide or join jehad, this world is not worth living as per you.

team selection by bkramchandra on 10 Nov 2009

I do not understand the way selectors select team.Srikanth wants his men Badrinath and Vijay in the team and Dhony wants Ishant.I donot understand how Sreesanth managed as there are no selector from Kerala,he might have used his political connection,Sreesanth has not played any matches for the last 2 years. With dismail performance against Australia Sehwag also should have been dropped. They should give chance to Manish Pandey,Tyagi and other youngsters instead of selecting injured Sehwag,Zahir Khan, and Dhoni himself to be rested for 1 or 2 years to do advertising with Bipasha.Mr. Srikant You resign as selector as all his selected players have performed badly till date.

Sreesanth selection by shesh on 10 Nov 2009

That arrogant guy has been selected for the test match it is really a shame on the part of the indian selectors. He needs sychatric treatment before being selected what a shame on the selectors a disgrace
