Chandigarh, January 8 A City resident scored 100 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT), which is a ticket to admission in prestigious management courses including the Indian Institutes of Management. CAT results were declared today.

Vineet Saini, a resident of Manimajra, and a former student of Panjab University, achieved the top score in his third attempt. Around 50 aspirants from the city got 98.5 percentile and above.

Saini, who is working with Infosys, said, “Even during mock CAT, I used to be in the top five. I am happy but also very tired. Now I just want to relax. I would want to opt for IIM-Bangalore. The city is good and the opportunities there are extensive”.

Saini’s parents are working with BSNL. He passed out from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology in PU.

Madhusudan Aggarwal, who scored 99.95 percentile, says he hadn’t expected such a high score. Aggarwal has got calls from all six IIMs. A student of Electronics at Punjab Engineering College, Aggarwal wants to opt for IIM (Ahmedabad). His father is a faculty member of the Department of Physics, PU.

Siddharth Ahluwalia, a student of Computer Science Engineering in PEC, scored 99.95 percentile. “Those who want to sit for CAT next year should take the exam with a cool mind. Do not be worried about the exam”, says Ahluwalia.

The Indian Institutes of Management held CAT on November 18 last year which was taken by close to 12,500 students who took the exam from Chandigarh. The seventh IIM, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Management, Shillong, will take its first batch of students this year.

“This is for the first time that a student from the region has scored 100 percentile,” says Hirdesh Madan, Regional Head, Bulls Eye, Chandigarh, “we are still compiling the result and expect the exact position of IIM calls to be clear by Wednesday.”

This year the cut-off for IIMs is expected to be higher than previous years as more number of students appeared for the exam. The cut-off for IIM Ahmedabad is 99.3 percentile. The cut-off for University Business School will be close to 93 percentile.

Students can check CAT results on the IIM website: www.catiim.in. Results can also be got through SMS.

Group discussions and interviews will be conducted February onwards and final results will be declared in April.
