A dash of Nigella

They say Nigella Lawson’s cookery shows are better loved for her buxom looks than her recipes. She would roll her eyes in delight after biting into a strawberry drenched in chocolate and then sensuously suck the last speck of pomegranate meringue off her fingers; some have said that a cookery show with Lawson is like a prelude to an orgy.

But the British journalist, bestselling author and “domestic goddess”, whose show Nigella Express is shown on Discovery Travel and Living on Monday, takes such comments in her stride. “Americans especially are not used to seeing normal-size women on television. Everyone is too thin,” smirks the 47-year-old, who doesn’t look as though she is bothered about the calories in the food she eats or cooks. Butter hardly misses a turn in the pan when Lawson is around but she insists the food is healthy. “It’s the new generation of fast food which is not dull or basic but delicious and time-saving,” says Lawson about the recipes that she will showcase for anyone who wants a feast in less than 30 minutes.
