He is reported to have fractured his hand.
The police said Jain, 26, jumped off the second-floor balcony of Karkardooma court complex around 3.30 pm after Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rakesh Pandit dismissed his bail application, noting the “seriousness” of his offence.
Post-verdict, as the case investigation officer was taking Jain back to the lock-up, he managed to free his hands and flee — he then allegedly jumped off the balcony. Jain was taken to the court’s medical centre.
On Thursday, Jain had stabbed his wife Geeta inside a courtroom in presence of the judge and other court staff. The police had at the time said the attack, in public view, came following an argument between the couple — the two are fighting a domestic violence case.
Married in July 2006, they had reportedly been staying separately for more than a year. Jain was allegedly persuading Geeta to reach an “out of court” settlement — he was the main accused in the case — but she refused to budge. This, police said, incited Jain, who threatened to kill her.
Jain’s mother has told the police that he is “mentally unstable” and suffers from “depression”. The investigation officer did not want to comment on the issue.
