A film to highlight IAF’s prowess in sky

Kolkata The Indian Air Force (IAF) is all set to screen its latest film in the city on the capabilities of the country’s air defence.

Aakash Yodha, a 45-minute film is the updated version of an earlier film released with the same name in 2003. The film provides an insight into various aircrafts and supporting equipment that the IAF uses under diverse conditions.

More importantly, the film is the first one commissioned by the IAF that includes a glimpse of the indigenously-developed Tejas Light Combat Aircraft.

The Tejas is being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and has given rise to much scepticism in the IAF during its development stage. Predictably, the Tejas features at the very end of the film for a short duration as compared to the already-inducted fighter planes like Mirage 2000H, MiG 29 and MiG21bis.

A senior IAF officer said: “We don’t want to be saddled with outdated technology in the name of indigenous development. Developing a world-class fighter aircraft in India is very important and welcome. Importing foreign-made aircraft is hugely expensive, both to the national exchequer as well as the IAF budget. But the Tejas or any other indigenously developed fighter plane must use world-class technology.”

When contacted about the minimal exposure to the Tejas LCA in the film, CPRO (MOD) Kolkata Gp Capt R K Das said that the Tejas had not yet been inducted into the IAF. “Tests are still being conducted. It is in the developmental stage. It’s not a part of the IAF’s fighting force as yet,” Das said.

Also featuring in the film is Russian-made Sukhoi 30, currently based at the Air Force base in Lohegaon, Pune. After a number of episodes on the IAF shot by the National Geographic channel last year, Aakash Yodha hopes to reach out to the youth and educate them on the prowess and progress made by the IAF.

Released selectively, the film has been screened at certain engineering and management colleges in Bengal. The film’s public screening will be organised at the Nicco Park in the coming week, Das said.

The film also touches on the role of the IAF in the Kargil war and the threat of terrorism in the Kashmir valley. In the film, Pakistan has been described as “a devoutly religious state”, which has “encouraged religious fundamentalism”. It goes on to say that India has been “sucked into a proxy war” and that the situation “suits Pakistan”.

Air Defense by Mope India on 12 Mar 2009

On one hand our strength is depleting daily and on the other the Air Force brass are shamelessly advertising of Yodhas and Prowess . Not one of the Air Chiefs has tried to take on the Govt. and force its hand to acquire aircraft on an emegency basis; deadlines for next ten or twenty years are openly being bandied about and no interim solution is being suggested to maintain a minimum level of deterrence. A similar sad state exists for upgradation of Artillery , Submarines and Air defense. Even smaller items like individual armour , assault rifles , communications and battle dresses and webbings are hopelessly out of date. The Generals , Admirals and Air Marshals continue to sleep blissfully bhaving more like corporate chief;s rather than soldiers . Wake up !!!!!!!

Prowess of Sky by Manoj Ramchandani on 11 Mar 2009

When a country of 1 Billion population can not build a engine of a fighter plane after so many years, its airforce has no right to use word prowess in the sky and I as an India feel ashamed to here a word of lie.

Kindom Under Fire by NJS on 11 Mar 2009

For past 3 decades LCA has been developed, but up to know their is good result , more than 60 to 70 % of spares from other countries in it , what is the real meaning of home grown aircraft, I don't understand what they are researching in it , The history of LCA seems to very feeble , this happens due to Govt's very less concentration in defense . Even though we have any time problems with our neighbors , india is not prepared in anything , first thing india should stop high depletion in IAF sqn's level , must increase fighter jets in highly fastrack or should make CLONE's from su 30 mki, should manufacture another 200 nos from it.

LCA by Prasad on 14 Mar 2009

Manoj and NJS now i understand wy people as you never will understand politics on globel scale. The lca is a master pice wich is ment to gain a hitech aero industry. It is the super brains of people in de DRDO as Kalam who has fool the USA, Russia and the EU.Just think what Russia had develloped in de 1970 to kill big USA fighter planes like the Phantoms. Yes a small plane the MIG 21 Bis. And what has india now a 4.5 generation LCA. A fighter plane who will aesely take on whit the havey lager planes. And when india will need a MCA or a Bomber they will have every thing in home to make it. Imagine if India whould have said to USA, Russia or EU that they wanted to make a MCA what would had happend. I can tell you. They all would have sabotage the hole project. But they didn't had any problem whit a ligt wight plane whit a small size. Do you understand now why Russia, USA and EU are not willing to help whit the engine. Because now they understand that after the LCA India will not buy fighter planes from them. They will be having their own Aero industry whit RDcapebelety. Don't believe indian news papers they will wrihte every thing to please Gora's. Of course they pay them verry well for this. And you have also indian reporterS who don't know any thing about aero industry and fighter planes . These jokers are just for the fun.JAY HIND. HHMD
