Addressing mediapersons at the Fort William on Wednesday, Major General Munish Sibal, MGGS, HQ Eastern Command, said: “Sukhoi 30 MKI, the state-of-the-art aircraft inducted by the Air Force, will be displayed during the Vijay Diwas celebrations to be held between December 15 and 16.”
About four such aircraft will fly from the Eastern Command Air base station at Tezpur in Assam. The aircraft will also hover over the Royal Calcutta Turf Club. “At present, the Air Force has 80 to 90 Sukhoi 30 MKI aircraft and the strength will be increased to 140 by 2015,” said Sibal.
He added that the air wing of the Army will also participate in the function. “They will perform sky-diving and several Army helicopters will be displayed there,” Sibal said.
Meanwhile, a team of eight Army officials from China has come to visit the Army bases in the state. The delegation visited the Army base at Sukna in Darjeeling on Wednesday.
“They have come to visit the state to maintain bilateral relations between the two countries. There are no other reasons behind their visit to Sukna,” said Sibal.
