For the homemakers and for the ones who are in love with colours, the market seems to have got flooded with a huge variety of both interior and exterior paints. The leading companies pitching in for the different varieties of paints include Asian Paints, Berger Paints, Nerolac and Ace Paints.

Exterior paints

Among the exterior paints, the two most popular ones are the cement and the emulsion paints. The cement paints, which are available in the price range of Rs 150 to Rs 250 per 25 lts, are the powdered paints. The emulsions are the liquid paints that give smoothness to the painted walls, and cost between Rs 1600 to Rs 3500 per 20 lts, depending upon the quality of the paints.

The latest ones available in the market are the weather shield paints, which are also very popular among the homemakers. Beside these, there are also dust-proof paints, which according to the experts are effective for a period of 4 to 5 years.

Interior paints

In the category of interior paints, people can choose from a huge variety being made available to them by the leading brands. The most popular being the emulsion paints. The latest in this section is the application of Plaster of Paris on the walls. Beside these, special paints are available on which no impressions could be left. These are ideal for those homes where children are in the habit of scribbling on walls. Once the walls coated with such paints are wiped off with a cloth, all that has been scribbled gets erased. These paints are available in a price range of Rs 70 to Rs 80 per sq ft.

The paint markets also offer ‘Galaxy’ kit, which has stars and moon, and can be applied on the ceiling of a room. These stars and moon shine once the light in the room is put off. The price of this kit is around Rs 700, and it is ideal for rooms of small kids as they can be used for their amusement.

Apart from these special kits, there are also the wall murals, which can be designed on walls. These come in different designs like the characters of Walt Disney etc. One can also get flowers, dolls, or other cartoons painted on their walls.

Keep in mind

Experts believe that consumers go for expensive paints, but are very careless when it comes to applying them on walls. Inferior quality of paintbrushes sometimes leaves behind impressions, thereby ruining the effect of expensive paints. While the paints are being done, it is very important that premium needs to be applied first, followed by putty and finally the paint. Speaking to Newsline, Ankit Jain, owner of Satyem Enterprise located in Sector-18 in Chandigarh said, “It is not only important to buy the superior quality paints, but the consumer while buying the same should ask about the application part as well.”
