Kolkata In view of Centre’s decision to set up a NSG hub in Kolkata, the state government is in the process of identifying two plots, where the elite commandoes could be stationed and trained.

While it is looking for land at Rajarhat where a small unit of the NSG commandoes will be stationed so that they can be pressed into action in a short notice, the government is also keen to get a bigger tract of land where training facilities will be provided to the force.

“The second one will be similar to one situated at Manesar in Haryana where commandoes are trained. The first one will have to be near the airport and its services will be available not only for the state, but the entire North East,’’ a senior state government official told The Indian Express.

Since terrorists targeted five star hotels in Mumbai, the state government is planning to deploy armed police commandos at select five star hotels in the city.

“The hotels asked for permission for armed guards but on legal ground we can not do that. Thatis why we are planning to deploy armed commandos at the hotels,’’ the official said.

On Tuesday, when Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will be attending the chief ministers’ meet in New Delhi on internal security he will present steps taken by his government to tackle a terror attack.

“We have taken several measures which include beefing up security at hotels, shopping malls etc. We are also going to set up six coastal police stations and 17 checkposts,” the official said.

Bhattacharjee has already written to the Prime Minister asking for Rs 255 crore for upgradation of Kolkata police.

On Wednesday, Bhattacharjee will attend another meeting with six chief ministers of Naxal-affected states. Asked about Bengal’s preparedness in combating the threat, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said: “We are taking all possible measures.’’
