“Now, cyber crime cases are filed in the local police stations and subsequently these cases are transferred to the cyber crime cell at the police headquarters. However, once the plan to set up a special police station to handle cyber crime is implemented successfully, the cyber crime cases will be registered with the new police station at the Bandra Kurla Complex,” said Senior Police Inspector Mukund Pawar of the cyber crime branch.

However, according to the sources, the work on the new police station has already started at the first floor of the Bandra Kurla Complex.

“From what we have been told, the station will be operational within next 15 days. As many as 50 personnel will be working at the new police station at BKC,” said a police official. When contacted, DCP Sukhanand Sabde of the Preventive Department said, “Work on the new cyber crime police station is still going on. As of now, we cannot say as to when the new police station will be operational. We are yet to post the police personnel at the cyber crime police station. The case at the station will be handled by a quartet of ACPs with four inspectors. As many as 19-20 assistant police inspectors and constables will also be posted at the station. Any crime that is committed using the internet will be registered at this station.”

The cyber crime police station will be unique as it will have a high number of ACPs to investigate the cases. As per the Information Technology Act, an officer of the rank of ACP is only allowed to register cyber crime cases.
