Pushed against the wall by local miscreants and students who often turn up drunk, the school authorities at the Kevadia Colony Higher Secondary School had sought police protection six months ago.

Of late, police patrolling has increased in the school area but that has not helped muc.

Even though a neighbouring primary school has been successful in curbing this nuisance by raising the height of the compound wall, the situation in the higher secondary school remains deplorable.

The reason: the school has not seen a permanent principal for the last one-and-a-half years, and even the police are under-staffed to offer fulltime protection.

“There is a nuisance at the Kevadia Colony HSC School, but it is a known fact that present principal R R Patel doesn't have much control over the school, which has worsened the situation," said R H Gol, Narmada District Education Officer (DEO). Meanwhile, locals in Kevadia Colony said students of the school are found in an inebriated state. Few months ago, a drunk student had threatened a teacher with her life; but no strict measure was ever taken.

Meanwhile, Principal R R Patel said, “I had written to the police nearly six months ago. Even though they have increased patrolling in the area, they are yet to sort out the police bandobast issue.”

Patel accepted that male students have been found passing lewd comments about their fellow girl classmates and disrupting school property in a drunken state but he refused to comment on teachers being threatened by miscreants.

Khumansinh Patel, coordinator of Cluster Resource Centre (CRC) at Kevadia said, “Kevadia HSC School has a primary school as neighbour. The nuisance at the HSC school was having a bad effect on the primary school. That is why the wall was built.”
