Vadodara, February 3 Making a foray into Gujarat, Abbee Sshope — retailer of branded printer cartridge refilling services — launched its first franchise operations in Vadodara on Sunday.

The Pune-based Abbee Consumable and Peripherals Sshope Ltd has tied up with city-based Millions Auto Blinks Pvt Ltd, and has investment plans with an outlay of Rs 100 crore for the next five years, offering franchise shops across the country.

“We plan to open over 1,500 stores across 65 major cities in India. Around 86 franchise stores are likely to come up in Gujarat covering Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot and Ahmedabad,” said B B Somani, CEO, Abbee Sshope. He further said that of the 86 planned stores in the state, 25 would be in place in the first year with an investment of around Rs 25 crore, adding that the company might also open a store in Jamnagar. He said the refilling sector lacks the presence of organised players, and their company would initiate a new trend in it.

Abbee enjoys 50 per cent market share in the refilling business, which is worth a total of Rs 1,500 crore, including the organised and unorganised sectors.

He said instead of throwing away used cartridges, it should be refilled, because it is eco-friendly as one cartridge takes about 400 years or more to decompose and consumes three gallons of fuel if burnt. He added that re-use of cartridges after refilling will also create more job opportunities and will also reduce landfills. Besides, it also costs less compared to a new one
