Gandhinagar Government spokesman and state Health Minister Jay Narayan Vyas said on Wednesday that it was not proper to declare Maya Kodnani an “absconder”.

“If the SIT is keen to arrest the minister (Kodnani), it should first file a chargesheet against her in the case,” Vyas told the media after the weekly Cabinet meeting here.

Kodnani has not been attending office in the Sachivalaya since Monday when the SIT officials made a move to arrest her. She has filed an anticipatory bail application in the Ahmedabad City Sessions Court, which will come up for hearing on Thursday.

SIT questions DSP Mysorewala

Now, the Modasa blast probe officer; he was Naroda inspector in 2002

AHMEDABAD : The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), has started questioning Gujarat policemen involved in the investigations of the post-Godhra riot cases in 2002-2003.

At least six policemen are under the SIT scanner for their alleged negligence during the riots. While retired Additional Director General of Police M K Tandon was questioned last week, the Sabarkantha Deputy Superintendent of Police and the investigating officer in the Modasa blast case, K K Mysorewala, was questioned on Wednesday.

Mysorewala, who was Naroda police inspector in 2002, was questioned in the morning, while another Naroda inspector of the time, V S Gohil, could not be questioned due to time constraints. “Since Mysorewala’s questioning continued till 5 pm, Gohil was asked to come on Thursday,” said an SIT officer.

Apart from Tandon, who was Joint Commissioner of Police (Sector 2, Ahmedabad) during the riots, Mysorewala and Gohil, the other policemen whose alleged dereliction of duty is being probed are the then Meghaninagar police inspector K G Ereda, Assistant Commissioner of Police (G division) at that time M T Rana and the then Deputy Commissioner of

Police (Zone IV), P B Gondlia. They are likely to be summoned for questioning this week.

All six came under the scanner after a thorough scrutiny of their mobile phone records of the time, said sources, adding that they are being questioned on their whereabouts on February 28, 2002 and later.
