Surat The head constable had allegedly assaulted his senior at Vaghai police station with an axe

The police on Thursday afternoon found the body of the police head constable Sampat Manaji who had allegedly disappeared after assaulting senior police sub inspector M N Gaud inside the premises of the Vaghai police station on January 14.

Manaji's body was found from a ladies' toilet at Vaghai bus depot. The police believe it to be a case of suicide.

The people residing near Vaghai bus depot had drawn the attention of the authorities towards the bad smell coming out of the toilets in depot.

According to sources, a sweeper noticed that one of the toilets was locked from inside. When he peeped inside, he saw a person's body lying on the floor. He informed the depot manager and also the police about it. When the door was broke open, the police found the decomposed body of Manaji lying on the floor of the toilet. The police took charge of the body and sent it to Ahwa Civil Hospital for postmortem. The police had found a rope wrapped around Manaji's neck and suspected that he might have committed suicide by hanging himself in the toilet.

District Superintendent of Police Gautam Parmar said, "Manaji might have felt bad after assaulting on his senior official and this might have led him to take the drastic step."

He said the police are carrying out further investigation and the truth will come out in the near future.

According to the case details, Manaji had attacked senior police sub inspector M N Gaud with an axe in the official's chamber over a small matter on January 14.

The police had directed search operation in the deep forests in the region to arrest the accused constable after he was found absconding after the incident.
