Acting on a complaint lodged by Nayeem Abdul Rehman Shaikh, the nephew of retired IAS officer Arif Shaikh, a trap was laid by the officials of the Vadodara ACB at the office of talati Ratilal Patel.
The ACB officials said that Patel demanded Rs 1,000 from Nayeem Shaikh to issue him the inheritance documents on behalf of Arif Shaikh. “In his complaint, Nayeem said that his uncle Arif, a retired IAS officer, had wanted to get some documents after the death of his wife. When he approached Patel, the officer demanded Rs 1000.”
“However, we were informed about the matter and so we could successfully trap Patel on Thursday,” said assistant director J R Tiwari.
Tiwari said that earlier also Patel was accused of corruption charges in a case. “He had allegedly accepted Rs 600 from a tobacco merchant in February 1994 but was acquitted in the case in March 2001,” he said.
He added: “An appeal was made in the same case in June 2001 and the case is going on.”
