Chandigarh/ Mohali The thick blanket of fog covering the region for almost a week now claimed two lives and left two injured in separate road accidents in the last 24 hours.

In Chandigarh, Parveen Kumar, a 42-year-old resident of Sector 26, rammed his scooter into an electricity pole on the Sector 27-28 dividing road and died on way to hospital. According to the police, Kumar had lost his way due to fog and collided with the electricity pole.

Kamaljit Singh, aged around 22 and a resident of Chadiala Soodan village in Mohali, died when he was driving back home from Mataur village in Mohali around 7.30 pm on Thursday. With visibility down to almost zero, he lost his way and his tractor-trolley overturned near Bhagomajra Bairampur village on Kharar-Banur Road, the police said.

Till help reached, Kamaljit had died, they added. Kamaljit’s friend who fell on the other side of the road escaped with minor injuries.

Gulshan Kumar and Myushan of Kharar sustained injuries when the autorickshaw they were travelling in collided with a milk tanker on the Mohali-Kharar National Highway-21 near Desumajra village on Thursday night.

The mangled remains of the autorickshaw and the tanker blocked the busy highway for almost an hour, with vehicles stranded on a 4-kilometre stretch on both sides. The traffic was restored after Kharar SHO Dalbeer Singh led a team to the spot and got the autorickshaw and the tanker moved.
