Ludhiana National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) organised a seminar on rheumatology here on Sunday where about 100 doctors discussed joint disorders under Continued Medical Education (CME) project of the organisation. Dr Parshant Aggarwal, Consultant Rheumatologist and Immunologist at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, was the guest speaker.

Apart from Dr Dr Surendra Gupta, Secretary, NIMA, Dr Rajesh Thaper, Dr Satinder Kakar, Dr KK Kharbanda, Dr KK Sharma, Dr Inder Sharma, Dr Ranbir Singh, Dr Manjit Dhaliwal, Dr Ramesh Kapoor Machhiwara, Dr Manav Jagraon, Dr Durgesh Raikot, Dr Mrs Princy Sekhon, Dr Mrs Meenakshi Gupta and Dr Rahul Jain participated in the seminar.

Dr Satinder Kakar, Patron, NIMA, Punjab, after welcoming Dr Parshant Aggarwal appreciated all the delegates for attending the seminar to update their knowledge to serve their patients in a better way.

Dr Surendra Gupta advocated a strong and focussed community-based efforts to reverse the increasing incidence of auto-immune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis and other connective tissue disorders in our population.

As Integrated doctors are primary health-care experts, it is their foremost duty to deal with the cases of connective tissue disorders at the earliest so that the crippling effect of the disease could be averted and precious national human resources saved from otherwise incurable long-term complications.

He said rheumatoid arthritis was known as Aam-Vaat in Ayurveda. Measures like consumption of light and easily digestible food-stuff and addition of digestive herb-based medications helped in reducing symptoms.

Dr Parshant Aggarwal in his talk on “Treatment approach in joint pains and connective tissue disorders” said that there were more than 100 causes for joint pains and laboratory tests could often be misleading. Hence accurate assessment and diagnosis were critical for optimal outcome.
