Dr Surendra Gupta advocated a strong and focussed community-based efforts to reverse the increasing incidence of auto-immune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis and other connective tissue disorders in our population.

As Integrated doctors are primary health-care experts, it is their foremost duty to deal with the cases of connective tissue disorders at the earliest so that the crippling effect of the disease could be averted and precious national human resources saved from otherwise incurable long-term complications.

He said rheumatoid arthritis was known as Aam-Vaat in Ayurveda. Measures like consumption of light and easily digestible food-stuff and addition of digestive herb-based medications helped in reducing symptoms.
